Sometimes you go away from reading a thread feeling like if you don’t own a top-of-the-line .308 battle rifle you can’t possibly be ready for the horrors that await us in the coming future.
I happen to disagree with that idea. While I like top-of-the-line .308 battle rifles I don’t think they are the most important facet of preparedness, even when it comes to firearms. What matters is that you have a firearm (or firearms) that will serve your particular needs and that you shoot well with it. On this episode I compare two basic categories of “Survival” rifles:
* Sporting guns (bolt and lever-action hunting rifles, single-shots, etc.)
* Military-pattern magazine-fed semi-auto “Sport Utility” rifles.
While discussing the advantages and weaknesses of each type I try to bring home the point that what really matters is what “you” can do with “your” rifle and that all else is merely academic.
