His legal practice is also heavily involved in defending the rights of Indiana gun owners before the courts.

Practical Defense podcaster Alex Haddox brings his unique understanding to the tragedy. He points out the attractiveness of gun-free soft targets to maniacs bent on attention and suicide. His experience shows that the lunatics often immediately kill themselves when confronted by force; as shown by the Clackamasshooting where a CCW holder drew on the killer, panicking him into ending his spree early. This shows the extreme relevance of school guards and an armed populace. Alex is a personal protection expert who has just published a new book; How to Write Range Safety Standard Operating Procedures, available in electronic formats.

I Can’t Drive 55!: BSD #55 Streamed Live! 11/28/12: Mark and Doc take a good old-fashioned gun-festooned road-trip this BSD. 4 More Years: BSD #54 Streamed Live! 11/14/12: The 2012 election is definitely on Mark, Doc, and Grant’s minds this Bar stool  As the greatest gun salesman of all time wins another term, the impacts to the nation, economy, judiciary, and our freedoms are roundly discussed. Even though the House remains in relatively gun-friendly hands, executive orders, judicial fiats, import restrictions, regulations, and treaties concern all. As an example: Control Queen DiFi is already conspiring to introduce a “belter” version of Obama’s wished-for assault weapons ban.

Without a doubt, the next years are going to be tough all over. The hosts and chat-room discuss probable situations and individual responses; from stocking up on supplies, hunkering down, and fighting the threats. This is an informative, important podcast; sobering, but still with many enjoyable moments.

Remember, tough times never last… tough people do.

Gun Right Policy Conference BSD #52 Streamed Live! 10/03/12: Mark, Doc, and Paul Lathrop (Politics and Guns Podcast) bask in the afterglow – and hangover – of the recent Gun Rights Policy Conference.  In this laughter and tale-filled ‘cast, Mark and Paul regale Doc with their exploits at the conference, far away from adult supervision.

Every year, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) holds the GRPC conference in a different city. This year, Mark and Paul descend on Orlando, FL for a weekend of seminars, education, and interaction with the leaders and shakers of the gun rights movement. Mark is tapped to anchor the GRPC Breaking the Establishment Media’s Stranglehold seminar. His audio is here: a tremendous performance! The GRRN is well represented by listeners, and the BSD bar band, Madison Rising, absolutely rawks the conference. Mark is going to do us a service by posting audio of the GRPC speakers through his Gun Rights Advocates Podcasts. Paul has posted a bootleg BSD recorded after the conference. It’s a must listen, if for only the repeated slurred claims of sobriety and Paul’s Strip Solitaire Podcasting game. Be warned: that podcast has a BAC of 1.4.

Election year politics do intrude into this BSD; as the first Presidential Debate between Mitt Romney and an empty chair takes place at the same time. Distributed Defense’s loss of their 3D printer is also dissected. The two hours FLY by: quite a BSD for quite a conference!

Mark and Doc celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day by — drinking like pirates. The show boldly runs before the winds of disaster, on a sea of rum, ably assisted by First Matey Grant Cunningham. The swamping Recoil Magazine, Black-hearted BHO – Gun Salesman of the Year, a scurvy dog of a gun store robber, and the Fast and Furious DOJ Report bilge water are each given a double-shotted broadside twixt wind and water. While plans for a film documentary on the insanity of California Gun Laws (know ‘em well), the Gun Rights Policy Conference, the SHOT Show, a Gator Farm Tactical training class with Tom and Lynn Givens are all marked on the ole treasure map. The two hours goes by in a flash, leaving nothing but an Arrrrrr.

BTW, live BSD participants well know the unstructured fun of the BSD Aftershow. As you might guess, the lists are every bit as eclectic (and eccentric) as the gentlemen; ranging from the solid Marlin 1894C Lever Action, to the anachronistic Colt Single Action Army, the semi-modern Dragunov and the futuristic .338 Lapua. The Times They Are a-Changin‘  Streamed Live! 8/22/12: With all due respect (very little) to the Minnesota Mushmouth; these last two weeks have seen changes A Blowin’ in the Wind. Mark and Doc happily discuss the nomination of gun-friendly Paul Ryan to the now believably conservative Republican ticket. The media’s grudgingly honest reporting of many cases of self-defense with firearms is noted with glee. In California, a proposed semi-auto ban is stopped dead, while in Colorado a civil rights victory supporting CCW in colleges is won. Most incredibly, several Illinois State Attorneys are openly defying their Chicagoland Dons by no longer enforcing the state’s blatantly unconstitutional firearm statutes. Is the dike at long last about to break?

This must be what winning feels like!

Attorney & Certified firearms instructor Guy Relford filed a lawsuit August 22, 2012 in St. Joseph County (Indiana) superior court on behalf of Clay Edinger. Mr. Edinger was denied access to his polling placeto vote in the Indiana primary because he was carrying a legal firearm.

Mark spoke with Clay earlier before the live show to discuss what happened on May 8. After Clay’s attorney Guy Relfordfiled the paperwork for the lawsuit, he spoke with Mark about what was filed and what relief they are asking in the case. (audio from the interview starts the second hour of the show)

The audio attached to this post is what you could say is an old time audition tape. We’d like for you to listen to it and then e-mail us feedback about it. Either by the contact form at the bottom of this page or by using the e-mail addresses that I talk about in the audio. Please make sure that you carbon copy Cowboy T and myself.

So the idea. Last year, or maybe the year before for a short period of time. We had a show by a younger gentleman that was supposed to be slanted towards liberals. Think he actually called it the “Liberal Gun Show” and let’s just say he did not stay podcasting very long. Don’t really know why, if it was bad feedback or maybe not enough feedback. But he just stopped one day and I could never get in contact with him again. But after thinking about it. It’s a good idea to have diversity in the network.

See recently I have come to the realization that my strong conservative views are not necessarily the same views that my other gun owning friends believe in. Apparently, most of them just nod their head politely when I talk about things that they may not necessarily believe in. Turns out some of them are actually libertarians or that real scary word gun owning, “liberal”. The only reason that I can think of as the reason why friends don’t speak up about their alternate views is that I am pretty outspoken about my beliefs and maybe they are not as strong in there’s. Or they just don’t want to have a confrontation with me. Either way, I wish they would speak up. I like debate and discussing ideas, even if I think you’re wrong. But maybe that attitude is also part of the reason.

So why don’t I try to correct some of that by bringing a show to the network. It may fill that void for those that are not necessarily die hard conservative gun owners and may be in the same time open up a dialogue between all gun owners.

In my Gun Rights Advocates Podcast you hear me at the end of every show say “It’s not about guns,it’s about freedom”. I fully believe that and I fully believe that everyone should be involved in protecting it. So maybe conservatives are more vocal about protecting that right. I’ve come to the realization that there are a lot of non-conservatives that also enjoy that right. But they just feel left out of the party.

So, give a listen to Cowboy T. It took a while to find someone to move forward with the idea of a liberal show for the network. You can imagine that a lot of liberals that were in contact with me were very skeptical of my idea. They didn’t think that a diehard conservative could be open-minded enough to allow such a thing on what they consider the ultimate conservative gun rights network. I hope by bringing this show to the network we can prove them wrong, but open a dialogue about protecting the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. I’m not going to change my mind on any my socially conservative beliefs. But I look forward to having an open dialogue with the more liberal minded gun owners about Second Amendment. Cowboy T looks like a guy that will bring that to the network.

Down in Florida, members of Team ProArms/ John’s Lawn Equipment are threatened by days of rainfall from Tropical Storm Debbie. They all come through relatively unscathed, but many of their neighbors did not. Mucking out the pole barn, Gail doesn’t call in.

Hello Gun Nuts!: Streamed Live! 5/02/12: Mark & Doc get a little political in this BSD. Like many gun rights advocates, they find themselves on the horns of a dilemma this Presidential election. In a broad ranging discussion between hosts, callers, and chatroom, the choices, actions, and ramifications are roundly – and intelligently – discussed. Paul Lathrop of the Politics and Guns Podcast brings some very cogent points. It may be a vote against, but we damn well need to make that vote count!

Thankfully, it’s not all about politics; there’s lots of fun stuff too: with industry news, new guns, and a friendly scrum on CCW choices. Ken Kowalski of The Rimfire Podcast calls in from behind a Ma Deuce in Afghanistan. In Okinawa, Daniel Shaw of the Gunfigher Cast slogs 10 miles in full body armor to benefit wounded warriors. Indiana attorney (and firearms instructor) Guy Relford discusses the case of Clay Edinger, a veteran who was feloniously denied his right to vote because he was legally open carrying. Relford also represents Ben Magenheimer, who calls in to the BSD to tell of being forcibly ejected by police from the local zoo for the non-crime of open carrying. The BSD then raise glasses brimming with cheer as Indiana voters deliver a big NRA Rated “F” U to Obama’s favorite Republican; Indiana’s non-resident Senator Dick Lugar. Politics and Guns podcaster Paul Lathrup helps with the celebratory discussion.

LAID in Moto-city Streamed Live 4/18/12: Rick “9mm” Ector, firearms instructor, blogger, gun rights activist, and media resource, dials up the GRRN barroom from the mean streets of Detroit. In an outstanding interview, he recounts his 7 year journey from unarmed mugging victim to the owner of Rick’s Firearm Academy of Detroit, and his corresponding move into gun rights activism. Despite years of Mark’s stalking, when cornered at the NRA convention Rick quickly agreed to this interview, and hopefully many more.

After attending many meetings, interviewing countless people, and pulling hundreds of triggers, Mark describes his trip to the 2012 St Louis NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits (NRAAM). No Compromise! Streamed Live! 4/4/12: On Doc’s 47^th birthday, Paul Velone, of Grass Roots North Carolina knocks aside the GRRN bar doors to celebrate the elimination of his state’s ban on carrying firearms during a state of emergency. Paul is a guerilla fighter for gun rights with a No Compromise attitude: an aggressive, winning tactic. Then – it gets a bit odd: with the latest Glock follies and an improvised silencer made from an oil filter. Matt of American Specialty Ammo swears it’s the quietest 22LR silencer available. Remember: it ain’t stupid if it works.

The chatroom overflows with April Fools jokes including the Glock G1911 and a tactical kilt. In the after-show, Doc entertains with his “Tales From The Prostrate”, featuring a doctor’s sausage fingers, a missing class ring, a pretty nurse with questions about Doc’s sexual proclivities, a little prick, and a hot nurse named Bob? It was hard to tell over all the laughter. However, descending the Grand Staircase in her antebellum finery, Gail trips over a bit of shattered technology, and doesn’t call in.

Today your humble host discusses one of those guns that I regrettably left behind: the handy Keltec Sub 2000.  I have owned two of these little fellers during my experience as a gun owner and find myself now wishing I had held on to one or both of them.

These little carbines are unique due to their capability of folding in half to minimize their dimensional size, yet are reliable, accurate and easy to use.  During this episode I look at the basics of this particular platform, some of their advantages/disadvantages and where I see them fitting into someone’s personal Survival Armory.
