I am in the market for a 1911 and have been doing a lot of research and holding quite a few guns.  I have settled on either a Kimber or a Springfield Loaded.  I think I have narrowed it down the the Kimber Custom TLE II or the SA Loaded BiTone (PX9104LP).  Seems I can obtain either of these for around $920 from a local store (I prefer to support local than buy off Internet).

Anyone have any comments, positive or negative about either of these guns, manufacturers, etc?  If you were me is there a direction you would go and why?

Loaded Bi-Tone.  First, it's flippin' gorgeous.  Second, it doesn't have the Series II firing pin block.  SA takes a much simpler approach to making their guns drop safe- a light firing pin and heavier spring.  No additional mechanical complexity.  I like that.

The SA is an absolutely beautiful piece of work. Couldn't find one when I was getting my 1911 so I got the kimber custom II. No complaints. I can't speak to the SA, but the kimber for me is a great gun. Accurate, feels great, shoots smooth.

I'm sure whichever you get you'll be happy with either.

I've got the SA bi-tone. Nice gun. Has never let me down in any way. Have shot numerous IDPA matches with no failures at all. Can't speak for the Kimber, but I love my Springfield. As a matter of fact, that's it I'm shooting zombies with in my picture over there to the left. Heck of a zombie gun. Think I'll go get her out of the safe and cuddle for a little while... at least until the wife gets home. She gets jealous.

I took the plunge this evening.  Have added a new girlfriend to the stable.  I went with the Springfield.  I did like the checkering on the front and back strap of the Kimber though.  That almost swayed me in that direction.  But then this little Eric Shelton voice in my head whispered "Springfield....Springfield...Springfield.."

Ain't she purdy?
