Recipracity Questions/Help

I need some help. Not really clear on the whole reciprocity thing. It it as simple as if I have a ccp in a state and another state accepts it, is it like having a ccp in that state too. Do I just follow the cc laws of the reciprocal state?

I guess the best I can do is to direct you to concealedcarry.net. They have a feature that allows you to plan your trip and check which states honors your ccw.
Pretty cool ccw app.

I always remind my students that it is strictly a case of: "When in Rome..." Any state that recognizes your permit will still expect you to know and follow the laws of that state, which can be significantly different than your home state. The web sites mentioned above are excellent sources for the researching of your travel routes. Also keep in mind that you may be passing through several different states, all with potentially different laws, until you get to your final destination. In some states, stopping for food, gas or lodging along your route can put you in different circumstances. It helps if you make copies of the information to take with you. Even the police don't always know the laws as well as they should. Its a matter of looking out for yourself.

Thank you Steve, Mas, and Jerome. I have visited both suggested websites a number of times. But what I think I was missing was Steve's "when in Rome" analogy.
Basically when traveling to states that honor your permit,it is like having an issued permit from that state. As long as I follow the reciprocal states cc laws, I am good to go?
What about crossing state lines. If I am traveling through say, 5 states and they all honor my permit, can I still carry on my person while in the car if that is permitted in each state or does my firearm need to be in the truck in a locked box like indicated by federal law.

In the situations indicated in your last two paragraphs, you SHOULD be good to go. The McClure-Volkmer act, the Federal law you mention, speaks to those not licensed to carry loaded, concealed handguns in the given state.
