Hey Eric,
I found your show through the forums, and I've been impressed so far. Keep it coming.
As for me, I'm a thirty-four year old guy in Tampa FL with a passion for firearms, sword and knife fighting. Although I have a couple of rifles, handguns are my favorite, with my Sig 220 and HK USP leading the way. I like to listen to podcasts while at work or on some of my longer commutes, and its nice to have someone giving me information I don't always have to time to research myself.

I've been busy processing photographs from a wedding I shot. (No, with a camera sillies.) But once done I'll be focusing more on the blog. I have a number of handguns and accessories I intend to review. As well as discoveries, learnings, etc.
I am trying to do things in order of my discovery until I catch up to present day.

Hello, i found this through the zune marketplace and from there i found the other podcasts. I am a custom knifemaker and listen to all the podcasts out in the shop when i am working away. the only things i have to comment on so far eric is that i really like the way you are presenting the information. I would like to recomend that you go out and get a good holster though. listening to you talk about the holsters you have tried and the ones you have carried i really think you could benefit from a custom holster. I have carried a gun concealed off and on for the last 18 years either for work or for personal defense and the holsters that you seem to like just haven';t worked for me. I would recommend Fist or milt sparks to start with. Try Blade-tech kydex for range work. other than that i find the program very interesting and hope to spend some more time here on the forums.

Well thanks, Tacmedic, and welcome aboard! (ps- right now I'm carrying pretty consistently in a Bianchi strong side holster and I like a LOT, but the eventual goal is a custom) Custom knife maker...? Do any work in D2, or is it just too tough? ATS34? That could make an interesting "carry accessory" interview...  |

Eric, I understand your liking of the bianchi but trust me on this that there are better holsters out there. anyway as far as the knives go i do some in d2 and s30v ats34 is kinda losing ground in the high end custom market. My prefered mediums are carbon steel and damascus steel because of the fact you can differentially ht the blades and that will hold the integrety of the blade under stress allot more. there are a certain percentage of the population that does not like carbon steel blades because of the tendency for them to oxidize but they do seem to take a keener edge and to hold that edge longer than a SS blade. and if a fella will treat a carbon steel blade like he would a fine firearm theree is no concern about rusting or discoloration......

I had an old Benchmade AFO9000 back when ATS34 was the baddest steel on the block. I really miss that knife. But the new Presidios seem just as nice, and maybe better. Is it CM154 that everybody is using now? How's that stuff for sharpening? Cause I've spent a long time working on my Emerson Karambit and the edge is only just now returning...

ats is a decent steel as far as the stainless steels go. My preference anymore is s30v. one thing to look at when buying a knife steel is what was the original intent of the steel. For example cpm 154 was originally designed for turbines in jet aircraft. the reason it was designed for that purpose is it is extremely abrasion resistant. well how do we sharpen a knife? we abraid away the steel to creat the edge. if it is abrasion resistant than we find ourselves in a bit of a pickle.  |

Hey everyone! Not really a new listener more of Eric's heckler  and good friend. Name is Mike I am 26 and from the GREAT STATE of Arizona! (I got a wee bit of state pride). And if you want to talk steel and knives, let me know I know a few things! But like tacmedic45 said, look at what you want the knife to do. If you are skinning animals a softer steel would do better for ease of sharpening like 440C but make sure you clean it good afterwords since blood is acidic. If you are looking for something more along the lines of a everyday carry knife a more dense steel or hard steel would be more built to you. Steel's like S30V, D2 ,VG-10 to name a few. They have better edge retention and corrosion resistance, but it is more of a PITA to sharpen. For sharpening I would go with DMT Diamond Stones since they never really wear out and require no special lubricants. But that is my 2c worth of random info! |

That was actually just to irritate my pal, lynx_strife. I was at his Knife Shop yesterday though, and DID get to handle the Cop Tool made from 440C and was pretty impressed. I was kidding about having got one, just to give him crap about sharpening D2 for me, but I really want to get one, now!
Mike also carries/has a man purse, but I don't remember who he said makes it. They're available from Wilson Tactical (owned by by Wilson Combat BILL Wilson's son, Ryan), and I really liked it! But before this thread gets carried away... I'll open a new thread for carry accessories. Reply there and let's keep this for introductions.

Great podcast! My name is Rob Leftridge, I'm from North East, Maryland (talk about gun rights violation). I've always had a love for guns, but just recently joined the NRA. My main hunting rifle is a Sako 75 chambered in 300 RUM (Remington Ultra Magnum), my main shotgun is an Remington 870, and my newest purchase (still waiting to receive) is a Taurus PT 1911, I have more but that's the most used. Anyway I enjoy the podcast keep it up!

Just wanted to say howdy! I stumbled onto the Handgun Podcast on the Zune marketplace a while back and I've been listening for a while. I like to listen to podcasts on the way to shooting matches on the weekends (about 1.5 hours each direction.) Eric's musings help keep me awake in those early morning hours. Hello Eric,
I've listened to the first 10 podcasts (and maybe no. 16) and have found them to be informative and very enjoyable. I'm a very new handgun and shotgun owner, though I admit, I don't own any top-shelf items yet. Thanks to yours and your peers' comments and reviews, I am, however, learning quite a bit. The next gun show that I attend will be a much more enjoyable experience, to say the least!
