So have had a notion in the back of my mind for a while now.  Been thinking of building out a Glock 20 with a aftermarket 6" barrel with some sort of red-dot on top for some Missouri whitetail hunting.  Planning on close shoots less than 50 yards and shooting controlled pairs.  I'm pretty confident in the set up, but would like to hear any confirmation if anyone out there has done this or know anyone that has used 10mm for whitetail.

Thanks,

I picked up a doe @ 25 yards out of a tree stand 2 years back with a stock 20C with Corbon 165 grain JHP.

One shot, one kill.

It can be done, but unless you have a lot of time to spend out in the woods, I'd bring a rifle as well.  Just in case you see that big buck 100+ yards out.

A six inch barrel won't give you much in the way of increased velocity over the standard G20 barrel... 50-75 fps at best. The deer won't know the difference. If you're looking to save a few bucks, that aftermarket barrel is a place you can. The factory G20 barrel has more than enough accuracy for 100 yard shots, let alone the closer stuff you envision. As for sights... yes!!... the best you can get.... also some trigger work. Good sights, good trigger, steady hold = dead deer.
I've harvested a pile of Florida wild hogs and a few deer with a 10mm (most of them with a G29, some with a custom 9-inch T/C Contender barrel), and I think the best load is the 200 grain Hornady XTP. It penetrates about the same as a 240 grain .44 Mag, and will normally expand to about .60 caliber. Slap that through a deer on a broadside shoulder shot and you'll be grilling the backstraps for dinner.
