I am splitting this topic in order to keep specific questions separate from the general IDPA discussion.

I'm currently using a G19 for IDPA. I feel like I'm giving up a lot having a compact. I'm thinking of getting a G17 and my friend said to get the G34. I think I would rather stay with the 5.5 trigger to maintain similarity. What do you guy's like? Also, what about the RTF finish? It feels good at the gun counter.

Shooting a classifier. The video is hard to watch because the guy isn't that good. http://www.youtube.com/v/beF4r_wMtac&rel=0Peter

Peter, I don't shoot Glocks in competition. Nothing wrong with the guns (they are very solid pieces of equipment!) just that my M&Ps fit me better. The G17 has a great record in IDPA, and the G34 was basically built to combine the G17 good points with some refinements. If I was buying a Glock for IDPA/IPSC competition I think I would go with the G34... and there is nothing wrong with the standard 5.5 pound trigger. I have no input on the finish you mention. A word of advice on the Classifier... shoot it "cold"... shoot it to the best of your ability... but don't practice to the point where it becomes your focuss. The Classifier is a basic skill test, but you'll see different stuff during a match. If you bust it real hard and achieve a classification level above what you might actually be able to equal during a real match... you haven't helped yourself. You can't go down in class... so if you bust your butt to... say make Expert... and it takes you ten tries to make it... you are... in reality... a Sharpshooter, and that is the class you'd want to compete in at Sanctioned matches. Good advice again from Chris. I've only shot the Classifier once in each of the (at that time 4) different divisions. It gives you an accurate picture of where you are if you do it cold. Shooting it over and over really screws up the "true" picture.

The RTF (Rough Textured Finish) is nice. I personally like something even rougher. I use the Tac-Grip on my match Glock and had a rough stippling permanently applied to my carry Glock by David Maglio.
Visited recently with the first law enforcement agency in the country to adopt the Glock 22 RTF. They patrol a seacoast area that has been hit by hurricanes and particularly appreciate something that won't slip in wet hands. They told me they love their RTF Glocks.
I should add that in addition to the rougher grip surface, the RTF also has very deep, curved slide grasping grooves that are more slippage-resistant.

Hi everybody! Just picked up a Eotac LW vest at Mas' and Gail's suggestion. Just got it like 20 minutes ago, but already love it. Nice and light for the cooler seasons here in phoenix, and heck just anytime! Cant wait to try it out at our match on saturday that I am running. Gail-trying out the G34 for IDPA...traded mom a 1911 for her 34. (I think I got the better deal lol, but you know me ) Will try and figure out how to post the link to my Picasa page, been taking lots of pictures at our matches. When you guys coming back to AZ? Stay Safe! Bubba P.S. Mas-just found out only 25 pounds to go before they put me on the transplant list...think I might start planning that trip out to shoot ya'lls state and regional matches!

We may not be back in Phoenix until next year but may be in Tulsa area in the Fall. Great to hear that you are almost on the transplant list, Keep up the good work. I also thing you got the better of the deal in that trade with your mom. Those EOTEC vests are great, If anybody wants a 25% discount on EOTAC clothing go to http://www.eotac.com and enter the code MA10225. Gail

I can't tell any difference at all between my G19 and my G34 in IDPA competition. Seriously. Perhaps because I've been shooting the G19 so long that I've learned it better. I don't know. The only reason I have the G34 is because this year I plan to shoot the Texas State IDPA match and I figure I'll gain a little bit with the longer sight radius on the long shots typically performed at a sanctioned match like a State Championship. However, the last time I shot a classifier I missed SSP Expert by only 6 seconds, with my G19, stock trigger. Would I have made Expert with the G34? Probably not because I had a brain fade on 2 targets that really cost me the bump. But...now I get to shoot with the Sharpshooters at State, better than trying to go up against the Experts.
