ProArms Gang,
I have a colt diamondback revolver (I believe from 1966 based on the serial number) that is in need of replacement grips.  While searching for a synthetic replacement I came across an article that said there was a change in the design of the frame/butt around 1971.  Does anyone have more information about what changes were made?  I also read that grips for the diamondback and detective special were interchangeable.  Is this true or is it specific to certain years.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Luke

Luke, I think the change may have been a little earlier, more like circa 1966. (Working from memory here.) Colt shortened the grip-frames of the D-frame revolvers across the board as a manufacturing economy.

A search at www.coltforums.com may turn up useful info for you.

Any source selling "late model" or "short-frame" D-frame grips should have what you're looking for. The only other short-frame D-frame stocks would be those specific to the Agent model as produced ca. 1955-66, and would generally be specifically marked as such. (If you run across a set of THOSE, let me know, 'cause I could use a pair for an old Agent I have.)

Hope this helps,
Mas

Thanks again for the reply about my previous question Mas!  I have another question about the Diamondback.  Can this revolver handle the Ranger 110 +p+ or would there be a better option for this snubby?  I don't remember this round being talked about in the podcast.  Also looking for holster recommendations for this revolver if anyone has them.

Thanks,

I would go light on +P+ with this collectible old gun. It won't blow up or anything, but the harder the recoil, the more the gun is battered.  Replacement parts have pretty much dried up, and people qualified to work on Colts are thin on the ground...:-(

best,
Mas
