Flop, if I recall correctly, Jerry Miculek only recommends the weak thumb crossover grip on J-frames. It's because with two big hands on a small gun, the support thumb when curled down can block the trigger finger.

Best to all for the new year,
Mas

Thanks for the clarification Massad. I don't have the thumb interference issue. I have small hands. If I had large hands, I would just stick my support thumb straight up in the air. That's what I do when shooting my North American Arms Black Widow. With the Widow, the straight up thumb is thus poised to cock the hammer for the next shot. OMMV.

Well first 2 sections did ok,my shots were low so i missed 2 head shots. My times were good, but my grip out of the holster wasn't consistent. On the final section I really blew it.My times were good, reloads were good, but my focus went to the target instead of the front sight. All groin shots.I focused to much on the new aspects and forgot the basics.I dont have my official times but looks like mm this go around for ssr.Revolver is a hell of a lot of fun though, even with the step learning curve! Thanks,Matt

On a slightly different topic, I was watching the power Factor episode with Caleb Giddings. I'm a little confused about where IDPA rules allow carry of speed loader pouches. The rule book says 2 in front of the holster and one behind the center line on either left or right side. Caleb was talking about using a weak side reload - can you wear two speed loader carriers on the left side in the same position as a magazine pouch?
And Rick was talking about spacing of the right hand pouches, while I read the rules to mean they (or a double pouch) should be as snug to the holster as possible.
What am I missing here?
Thanks

Well its been a year of only shooting revo.Ive improved alot, mastered by no means. I've got mm in ssr and esr but much closer to ss now.Ive been shooting my 627 in icore and doing pretty good with it,solid middle of the pack.Shooting steel challenge with the 617 has been the best skills development I have found.I shot my M&P last week, felt so weird to shoot a bottom feeder. Thanks again for all the advice, its help tremendously!take care,Matt

Matt, thanks for keeping us posted on your progress. We're all vicariously enjoying it!

Art, it does seem that if the dominant-hand reloader can have two in the most advantageous place for him and one more on the other side of his belt, that the same should extend to the shooter who reloads with his non-dominant hand.  I know I've seen wheelgunners who reload with the support hand with two carriers on the non-dominant side, but can't recall if those were sanctioned matches or not.

When in doubt, contact Robert Ray at IDPA HQ and get a ruling.

sorry I couldn't be more help,

Mas

Forget the 30 lbs. (could stand to lose that myself and I will get at it when I finally get over all of my recent injuries) keep getting rad with the wheel gun! Congratulations on your first place finish!
