For the past several months my local shop has had a very good supply of primers; I'm sitting on several thousand and I pick up a thousand every time I stop...... I'm hoping to get around 10 - 15K so that I don't have to worry about it if things get scarce... I'll still be able to shoot and not have to modify my practice / shooting schedule.

Keep up the good work, Chris, I intend to...

Jim

Don't worry Jim I'm not going to stop buying primers until I have at least my minimum desired stockpile (At MINIMUM I want 10,000 of each type).  I got there every week seeing if they still have primers in and if they do I take as many as he lets me.

Last time I was in he told the guy before me he was out of primers.  When I went to pay for my bullets he asked if I wanted my usual primers.  I said yes slightly confused and when I inquired he said, "I tell the new guys I'm out so you regulars can get them.  You pay my bills, one time buyers don't."

Some people think that's wrong but honestly it's nice to see the guy takes care of he frequent customers.  It also explains why he actually has primers in stock.

i got over a million primers for less than 100 bucks.

yes thats right i got 500k's of small rifle, small pistol, large pistol, large rifle, and yes 1k of cci 35 for 50 BMG.

i was driving down the street one day when i saw a garage sale sign that said garge sale and the words reloading tools and supplies caught my eye. so i stopped by and they had a huge stock pile of reloading stuff. i guess a someone died that was a reloader so they where selling off his stock and the people that where there did not know anything about reloading. they where selling 1k of primers for 5 bucks. so i asked if i could buy all the primers they have. they guy told me a 100 bucks and i said deal.

i also got a dillion 650 with 5 calibers setups and it was fully loaded. with brass feeder, strong mount, bullet tray, tool holder, roller handle. i mean everything for it that dillion sells. there were asking 350 for it since it was use and bang up and dirty. but i still gave them 400.

so for one day of not looking for primers. i found enough to keep me in stock for a while. but even though i have enough primers i do still plan on buying what i normal buy  every month or so. and that 1k of primers every month rather i need them or not. and i will just rotate my stock. just in case there is another component scare. i will have enough for a while.

so my point is look around and see if there is something you can work out with a fellow shooting buddy or somebody wanting to trade a gun for reloading supplies.

on sorry i will not be selling any of the primers i have because over half are OLD and im not sure if they will go bang. so i rather lose 100 bucks than sell some and have to refund money later on

Sportsmans warehouse has a nice stock of primers - well, the one in Colorado Springs has all that I could ask for - except for 5.56 primers.   The prices seem a bit high - but I stocked up on a few thousand small and large CCI pistol primers.

I gave up looking that style primer in the local area,  and ended up making a order from Powder Valley.  They only had Wolf primers in stock at the time for what I was looking for.  I ended up making a 5k primer order + some Powder (TAC / True Blue) to keep the Hazmat fees reasonable for the order.

Because everything fit in one box, the hazmat fee was not too bad.  At the time of the order I know I saved I think I saved between 5 - 10 dollars a lb on powder, and at least that per 1k of primers.

Right now I am looking to build two 1.5" plywood containers to hold my powder / primer stock.

This, too, shall pass. Don't stock up TOO much, as I am sure the prices WILL eventually come down as supply starts to match demand. Right now everyone bought out the stock, and the military is using a lot of the production, but none of this is written in stone. Hate to have 30k of each in expensive stuff, only to have the price drop to $130/5k.

Jayson, just out of curiousity, how much are you seeing primers going for?

Over here in PA, I just paid (09 Jul 10) on Friday, $40/k plus 6% sales tax

I bought 2 k of SRP and a pound of BLC2...  The powder is 22/lb

WW primers are about $34/k here (KC) in the gunshops and about $32 at the gun shows.  I'm thinking about going in during the last couple of hours and see if the sellers will bite at $30/k.

Federal Small Pistol $39.99/1k in the Charlotte Metro area. It's probably a couple dollars less in Rock Hill, SC but not enough to cover the gas.

It's a shame that we can't buy them up and simply ship them around to each other... Too risky tho to try anything like that...
