Shot my first match today - thanks for the prep help

I have to say thanks to the many who have answered my questions and built the excitement etc. to prep me for the big eye opener today. I had two stupid procedurals. First was a cover issue on my first stage, second was making a magazine change behind cover and I didn't pocket the not yet empty mag. Both things I knew not to do. I also know that I need a lot more work at hitting targets while I am moving and targets that are moving...the two things I can't do at the regular range. It was cold and a bit rainy at times (it is Seattle after all) but it was a blast. I had a great squad, everyone was very helpful and I did quite well on many of the stages. I will be interested in seeing the scores when they post. We had about 58 people there of which 10-15 people like me were new to IDPA. I can't wait to get back out there again.

Welcome to IDPA. Don't worry about the procedurals, just be safe and have fun. The rules will become second nature in due time plus you will screw up anyways, we all do!

What will be fun at the next meet in December will be taking my 15 year old along too. I ran him through the range commands and had him shooting on my timer at the range on Saturday. I need to get the holster on him and do a lot of dry fire work there and some movement, cover, etc. Have him sit through Clint Smith. But he seems ready to go (watched the BUG match video last night - of course as a 15 year old he thinks the appropriate bug gun is the S&W 500 magnum) he is getting a 10-22 for Christmas so we may also do some of the Ruger Rimfire if one is near us next year.

Well, heck, Jon Strayer thinks a short barrel S&W 500 Magnum is a proper BUG, too.
There is photographic evidence...
Makes scoring tough, though, when the muzzle blast blows the target out of the frame on the first shot...
Best of luck to you and the kid!
