LOL!

Jim Wagner wears his combat boots on the plane...

In a crisis situation, I will be the one to hold them back to let everyone else run away. I can't run for $%# anymore. A MC Gunnery Sergeant recently referred to me as a "grizzly," quick, big, hard to stop, but not made for the distance.  Roll Eyes

I made a very basic decision awhile back.  I never leave my living space wearing any footwear that lack laces, at least.  Usually, I'm wearing a pair of waterproof mid-weight hiking boots.

This serves a fantastic double purpose. First, I am able to run flat out whenever such a situation might warrant it: such as catching a bus or taxi, being generally late, or potentially escaping a bad situation.  Secondly, I get to silently chuckle at everybody circumventing the large puddles that are prone to collect in the streets or sidewalks (Seattle boy here  Wink) in their sneakers or loafers as I stomp through them with no hesitation whatsoever in my Gore-Tex Lowas.  In my experience, the boots last longer as well.

Last year we had a “near emergency” on a plane.  Our plane had to be diverted to a different airport with a longer runway (the plane flaps were not working to slow us down).  The kids loved it because of all of the fire trucks, ambulances and police cars greeting us when we arrived.  I never really gave it much thought before, but my entire family was in boots or sneakers, while most of the other passengers had flip flops on for convenience through the TSA security.  If it was an emergency, at the very least there would have been glass everywhere, not counting the mad scramble to exit the plane in a hurry.  I will ALWAYS wear my Lowa boots on a plane.

The only time that I will wear anything other than my work or combat boots is (other than sneakers for PT) is at the pool or on the lake.  I have never been a fan of wearing flip-flops because I do way too much in my day to day to put my feet at risk and if I ever did have an emergency I would be ready for it.  There is just no beating a pair of gortex paratroopers in opinion even if the wife doesn't like them in the house all the time.(She is now coming around to my side and is wearing hers more often too) I can do anywhere and do anything that I need to do with these bad boys on and nature or an emergency won't catch my tootsies off guard.
