Is their any possibility of using say a 21" baton against a person with a knife? I would think that it would be a pretty good device in that situation, but others don't but can't seem to explain why.

Thanks in advance.

If you are skilled in its use the 21" baton has reach and if used correctly can disarm the other person. I know people who have taken escrima classes and what they have shown me looks pretty effective vs. knives. Fighting is very much a range game. On the other hand if you have not been trained in the use of a baton it won't be much help against a skilled knife wielder.

Oh and the first rule of knife fighting is your gonna get cut. My understanding is knife fights end up being one person going to the hospital and the other person going to the morgue. Knives can kill in less than a second at 21 feet. Or something like that. Look up the tueler drill.(Alex can you correct the spelling of his name?)

From watching the best defense this season if you come against a guy with a knife and he can reach you (ie you haven't knocked him unconscious) and he knows what he is doing, you won't be standing very long or capable of holding that baton.  But, I would imagine like anything it is about skill and determination.
