Hi Bob, I really like your podcast. It's nice to see someone else that thinks like me. I have had my CC permit for some time now. And I do carry. I like to carry my Glock 23 are my 27. I have been thinking about getting a pistol for pocket carry. And I was thinking about getting a Kahr 380 but now after listing to your podcast on the Sig p238 I am not sure. How do you feel about pocket carry with a pistol (Sig p238) that has a thumb safety?

I have no problems at all pocket carrying a pistol like the P238 with a thumb safety. It's all about training. I'm teaching myself to learn the 1911 style of pistol. Jury is still out. I just had to have one of those little things. I highly recommend the Kahr P380 though. So far much more reliable than the P238 and just as accurate. Plus, XS makes Big Dots for the Kahr.
However, I have not had any issues with the safety accidentally disengaging in my pocket. Some have reported that not me.
For the kind of money these little 380's cost, get the Kahr if you're going to spend it. My opinion.

I recently picked up a p238, it is in my pocket right now and will do a review on the gun review podcast in the near future. I really like it. I have shot some Kahrs and I just don't dig them. My main carry gun is G19. As a quick preview: I work at home when I am not traveling so I am in a very different situation than many people at work with respect to protection during most of the day. I love the ability to just drop the p238 (in sig pocket holster) into what ever I am wearing: sweats, robe, jeans, shorts, etc. and to move it through the day. It is always just there. On the other hand having a 1 lb weight sitting on my right leg all day is probably bad for my circulation. Of all the .308s I have shot (ruger, kahr, keltec) this has the best sights, the best trigger, and is the easiest shooting because of the weight.

How's the reliability Tom? As you may have heard in my podcast, I was very frustrated with it for the first 200 rounds. It's been good since, but I have zero tolerance for guns that aren't extremely reliable. That said, I agree with what you like about the SIG P238. For wool dress pants, which I have to wear sometimes, my Kahr P380 is much lighter and balances better.
I work out of my home too when I'm not travelling. At home and anytime I'm not wearing wool dress pants, or sweats and gym shorts, my G19's on me in my Dale Fricke Archangel holster. Considering the Raven Phantom because I've heard so much about it.

I have only gone through one box of 50 so far and no miss fires in that. Now that it has been in various lint collection receptacles it will be interesting to see how it fares, I will be at the range again with it today. What is bad with my unit is the rear sight was drifted too far to the left so it needs realignment.

Aaron I can't stop dreaming about the 308 as a pistol... plus everytime you have to say your carrying a .380 you just want to say something bigger ....that is an "excuse me while I whip this out" pocket pistol. tom

Thanks for the replies. In the end I will have both of them lol. And I would not have a problem carrying other one. I have been shooting USPSA for 20 years. I started out with a Para and now have a custom Brazo's 40 cal. But I will need to practice pocket carry. I can't wait for the your review Tom
Thanks again.

This Saturday, June 12th. I leave for vacation the next day. I will post another podcast this Thursday on holsters. I'll put together my thoughts after the IDPA State Match and probably post a short recap while on vacation but not a complete podcast. I'll do my best, but the last couple lead up matches haven't been so good for me. I need to cut down the mental mistakes.

Mental mistakes are a big part of this game of shooting. I use to shoot USPSA I might get back into it. But I found that I can walk a stage out and have every thing I needed to do and where I was going to shoot the targets from. Then when the buzzer went off some times my brain went off. And that would cost me the match are the stage. Good luck with you match and keep your brain in the game. And the most important thing is to have a lot of fun.
