. Powerful. Frightening.
My wife had a similar problem with a stalker. An ex-boyfriend showed up at our house and demanded to talk to her. After being rebuffed, he started pounding on our then pretty flimsy front door. Cops weren't interested in the slightest: paraphrasing; "Ma'am, we've got other things to do." However, they took great offense when my wife told the 911 dispatcher I had armed myself.
I was ordered to drop the weapon - by the unsworn dispatcher. I believe I'm on record giving a rather colorful, emphatic, but admirably brief, refusal. Interest from some neighbors finally convinced the stalker to leave. Cops showed up an hour or two later.
About a year and a half later, the stalker spent a weekend in jail for his repeated stalking attempts. To the good, he hasn't been seen in a decade or more.

Nothing against Cops, but they just aren't able to get the job done all the time. I truly admire law enforcement and military. But it's just simply impossible for them to protect everyone 24/7. It can't be done and never will be. That said, It still confuses me as to why any Police officer would take offense to citizens wanting to arm themselves. Glad your situation worked out, but as was the case in this YouTube clip and hundreds of others, the stalker didn't go away until he was stopped.

. What I took away from the incident: - Need for increased physical security. The front door was replaced with a solid wood door soon after.
- Need for better training and awareness of laws. If he had busted through the door, I was going to cancel his life insurance policy -- and probably would have spent years/ decades in jail. I did not understand CA laws about disparity of force and the requirement to retreat. Thank God it didn't come to that.
- Need for self reliance. Cops get overloaded, even when they have the best of intentions
- The Legal system often does not have the best for the individual in mind

That disparity of force law is ridiculous IMHO. In TX we have what's called the Stand Your Ground law or something like that. If they are in your house unwanted and don't leave when asked, you can send them out of your home...horizontal.

. Well, the gap between California and reality is known to be huge -- and growing. But, it's the ruleset I live under.
