Would anyone be willing to accept OC if it required a Level II or Level III retention holster? No. I believe a good leather holster will secure the pistol with enough force to make grabs difficult. It is HARD to pull my 1911 out of my Axiom. I also believe the proper design will make it difficult to unholster the pistol unless you pull straight up which is usually only easiest for the wearer. I have enough trouble remembering the safety. Finally, I believe OC requires one to be in condition yellow-orangish. If you don't feel you can maintain this level on any specific day, then CC might be the way to go. I'm no expert but I think training is essential and choice is good!

Just thought I would let you know what happened yesterday. I was at the UPS store near my house and a guy was in there at the counter. As I walked in I saw him turn about 90 degrees, lift up his shirt, then readjust his 1911 in his holster then draped his shirt back over it. I smiled, and when the UPS clerk was in the back, taping up the guy's box I whispered to him..."nice 1911 you got there." (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) A huge GRIN came over his face and I said..."don't worry, I'm packing my Glock 19 and no one but me saw you do that." Then the UPS clerk came back to the counter, so we both stayed quiet, did our business and left separately. It made me think of this thread...technically he was brandishing by Texas law. What a bogus law. Perhaps we do need open carry. This is exactly why I am for the Open Carry law to pass in Texas. I would not personally Open Carry since I think it's a tactical disadvantage but I see the value in not having to deal with legal issues if I accidentally reached for something in the supermarket and someone saw my gun.

No, if that was the requirment, then I certainly would not open carry.

I for one would love to be able to carry in an OWB holster with a button down shirt over it instead of having to wear three shirts in this 105 degree weather we've been having here lately. Why so many shirts? I typically try and wear an Under Armor shirt tucked in with a t-shirt over it (untucked) and I'll sometimes throw on a button down Hawaiian type shirt (unbuttoned) over that just so I don't print and scare the sheeple. Lately I have been wearing just an Under Armor shirt with a larger t-shirt because it's been so hot lately and the humidity doesn't help matters at all. I have a Bladetech holster so it's all composite and no leather. The Under Armor shirt helps make it easier on the love handle. One of these days I'd like to get an MTAC for CC. Aaron

Thanks for the article, Pocono. A good argument for OC.

As a personal. I occasionally OC for political reasons. I live in Arizona so there is almost no reason to fear the loss of my rights. That said, I choose to OC at least once while I am home on leave to do my part in retaining awareness and make sure there is no back sliding. I know in some places it's a slow battle.
True fact to make all you jealous. I have tossed a M1A on my back after purchasing it, hopped on my Harley and ridden from down town to my house with it there and no one freaked out. I regularly do the same with a pistol. I love my state.

Me too! It's amazing how many people that don't know anything about Texas, think that everyone open carry's in Texas. Hell...we still ride around on horses, out in the desert, wearing cowboy hats and boots, spurs and invading the local saloon, right? After all...this is Texas.
Actually I'll be around a lot of folk like that this weekend, I'll be going to the Mesquite Rodeo. Too bad I can't open carry. (Can't carry at all, it's a public sporting event.)

Let's call it what it is Bob - a defense free zone. Now that McDonald is "settled law"...oh wait - my bad, that's just a political term used inside the beltway to mean "I'll tell you what you want to hear until I am confirmed"...what I mean is, now that the states are put on notice that the 2A is an individual right we need to work with our state groups on having restrictions like sporting events repealed.

I support open carry but I live in Arkansas which does not permit OC in public except if you own a business and you choose to carry there or on your own private property. I carry openly inside my house which is no big deal of course.
I do not neccessarily oppose a national CCW permit, but under the 14th Amendment, a national permit should be unnecessary under the privileges and immunities clause. My Commercial Driver's License, issued by Arkansas is recognized in all 50 states without any "reciprocity" agreements at all.
