Schweeeeeet!!!

But -- I've got nuthin'.  My rig is a plain black Cavalry-style, strong side - weak side rig.  Custom made, but very, veeery plain.  It was my starter rig, to be replaced at a later date when I could choose with the benefit of greater experience.  However, I found I chose pretty damn well and I'm still very happy with it. It's fast, secure, and robust. And BTW, I've beaten the snot out of it, and I don't regret any of the beauty scars.

Maybe, one day in the future, I'll go for the bling; probably a Mernickle Evil Roy or Ted Blocker. But for now, I'll just admire beautiful rigs like yours from afar.

I've already got the safe open and the camera out for another couple of projects.  Maybe I'll snap a few pix and post 'em.

My CAS load-out.  Forgive the QnD photography:

Top is my pride and joy: Uberti Winchester 1866 Yellowboy in 38 Special, 20 inch barrel in white. Damn, damn pretty!  And it shoots like a dream with an action job and a 3 1/2 Gen short stroke.  Beneath it is my splattergun, an IAC ChiCom clone Winchester 1897 in 12Ga.  The pistols are Ruger Old Model Vaquero Bisleys, SS, 5 1/2 barrels, in .357, sportin' the Eagle Gunfighter grips.  As you can see, the holster are plain, but well suited for the Cowboy game.

All firearms have received the gentle administrations of Jim Bowie at the Cowboys and Indian Store.

I've got an Evil Roy for my Vaquero and I like it, but more than that I enjoy doing business with people like him. He looks like one of those people that's loads of fun to be around.
Really nice set you've got there CF.

Thank yea, Gitt.   Grin

Seems we have a bunch of Cowboy Shooters here on the GRRN.  Hmmmm....  Be sure to listen to Doc Wesson's Lever Action Trilogy.

I really enjoy dealing with Evil Roy also. I bought my Eagle grips through ERSS. Had a problem: I got plow handle grips rather than the Bisleys I ordered. Happens. Karen (ER's wife, Wicked Felina) immediately made it right. Not only that, but unasked, she rooted through her stock of grips to get me the best looking ones, and threw in a Evil Roy Shooting School ballcap to boot! So, when it was time for shooting glasses: Evil Roy.  I believe I got the best glasses at the best price.  That type of service will earn a lifetime of patronage. My bling holsters will very likely be ER.

Belighing their aliases, they're two of the nicest people you could ever meet.

CF -

Like your stuff. I, too, have a Yellow Boy in .38 Spl, with a 20" barrel. I had the trigger worked on, put in a short throw kit, and had the aluminum block replace the original brass one - way lighter! I also have a chicom '93 that's been worked on by a guy up in Michigan. In addition to the action, it has screw-in chokes, so I have a full and a skeet choke. First cowboy match I went to, I didn't know which choke was in, but assumed it was the skeet. Hit a steel knock-down so hard it bounced back up! When we got to a wagon wheel stage, you were allowed to bring up as much ammo as you wanted, so I had my 9 in my belt - and brought a box along. Ended up shooting the whole box before I finally hit them all. The posse was in stitches. We still talk about that - no one thought the wheel would keep turning that long, and I kept shooting. THEN when I get home I find I had the full choke in, which explains the difficulties I was having.

Use to shoot a real '97. It was made in '98 by serial number but doesn't have the original barrel. But it works really nicely, and nothing was ever done to it. I decided that if I was going to be banging things around in matches, might as well get a chicom that I didn't really care about. I DO have a '97 with original barrel made in '17, another nice piece.

The gun rig was done by a friend of mine here locally. He does leather stuff, saddles for the riding crowd, etc. He's a neat old guy (about 74), still shoots SASS. I had my original rig done by him, so when I got the Navies, I had him make me new stuff. He decided this would look nice. And it does.

Yep. You ask me, Yellowboys are one of the prettiest and fanciest guns out there.  Beauty and class.

Your knockdown tale had me laughing. My first time was a similar train wreck. I was manfully stumbling through my first CAS match, on the 3rd or 4th stage. The Timer Operator was using a sundial to time me.  After the embarrassment of the pistols and rifle, it was finally time for the shotgun: I smacked down the first 3, but the closer fourth bounced back up after a solid hit. I heard the spotters yell "Down", which my adrenaline-soaked pea-brain interpreted as "Put it DOWN!" So, I stuffed another two into the SxS and creamed the KD again. Damn thing popped up again. The entire Posse was yelling "DOWN!" So, with the other barrel, I smacked the target again. Damn thing popped up again.

Son of a Bi...scuit!  Seemed like the whole world was screaming at me to put that target down!

As I broke open the SxS for another go -- or two, the TO finally stopped laughing long enough to put his big paw on my shoulder. "Yer done!  First shot was enough!"

Oh.

Now, if I miss a KD, I hear "Uno Mas!" (One More!) Which is my alias, short for Uno Mas Cerveca (One More Beer!)

LMAO! Boy, lucky you didn't have a box of ammo with you like I did! When I hit the bouncer, I was going kind of fast and I noticed it come bouncing up, but I was already moving for the next shot, so I figured I'd pick it up at the end. Then Dice, the TO, started yelling at me, "You hit it! Keep going! Keep going!" Not like I was actually staying to shoot it again.

I have to agree with you that Yellow Boys are darn pretty. I started with a '73 in .45 Colt; had to have some action work just to make it shoot decently, but never shortened the stroke. I was shooting full house .45 loads, like it would have been in the old West, so I figured no one back then had figured out a short stroke, so I wouldn't do that either. But I DID take some brass off the carrier. Thing is, the .45 cartridge is so large that it really made little difference, since there really wasn't that much brass there. The .38, on the other hand, made a HUGE difference! Shot the '97 that first year left handed as it seemed a lot easier to see where I was tossing the cartridge looking INTO the port than over the top. Everyone on the posse would comment that I had shot the rifle right handed and the shotgun left handed. But it made sense to me. Plus I could stage the shotgun with the port DOWN, so there was no chance of something accidentally falling into the gun.

LoL!  Fun with splatterguns -- and idjits.

I'm sure you know this, but be careful with full house loads with the '66s and '73s.  The old toggle actions, designed for black powder, are not strong enough to take modern full house 45 Colts, especially if they are loaded to the Ruger Old Model Vaquero standards. Heard about a pard discovering that truth the hard way: he needed a new set of shooting glasses - and pants.  My Winnies get fed a steady diet of light "cowboy" loads.

Now the 92s... 'nother story.  Old man Browning made the actions strong enough to withstand a 454 Casull.  And the Marlins are just a small step behind.

My 'smith, Jim Bowie of Cowboys and Indians, no longer recommends the aluminum carriers.  Fast shooters can "bounce" them out of time, locking up the gun.  My Winnies still have their brass carriers, with only the vertical corners chamferred to ensure smooth cycling.

I'll say.  Tell us more about that work of art!

This is one of a pair that I had built in 1997, my father owns the other. It is a 16 ga AyA No. 2 sidelock with upgraded No. 1 grade wood. It is a classic Holland & Holland pattern sidelock action and has 28" barrels, choked skt 1 (.004) and skt 2 (.010), double triggers, ejectors, straight stock, splinter forearm and is deadly on grouse, woodcock and pheasants.

This might be a bit different from what has been posted but I'm sure there are some old west gunfighters that would have appreciated this piece.  I know that I have enjoyed it.  the pic is a bit abstract, but I'm sure you can put it together.

The daily carry looks your serious piece. The Stan Chen gun is, well, ..... can't find all the right words for how neat that beauty is. People want to see a truly outstanding 1911 in all its subtlety, expand that pic! Just all KINDS of neat things there!

My daughter was standing beside the computer screen the first time the picture loaded and I had to grab here and move her out of the way so that she wasn't being muzzled by the picture.  It was a close one thats for sure. Shocked
