I picked up a new Glock today and put about 300 rounds through it with no malfunctions. As with every Glock, I had a set of Meprolights put on before leaving the gun store. I used to carry the 40 S&W but have grown to prefer the 9 mm due to lower ammo cost and longer brass life with reloading. I like the slimmer grip, new texture, and the larger magazine release of the Gen4.
If this was anything but a Glock I wouldn't be carrying it until I put another 500 or so rounds through it but with previous experience of Glock reliability I'm willing to take the risk. My carry load is CorBon DPX and they shoot 1 inch high at 15 yards.
For those that don't like the grip angle of Glocks I would highly recommend trying a Gen4. With the slimmer grip I can close my eyes and point at a target and be dead on. With my previous Glocks I would be aiming high. I think the angle is changed somewhat on the Gen4. Overall, a great pistol.

Congratulations on your purchase. One of my training partners at CRGF a couple weeks ago, ran a 4th Gen Glock 17 through without a problem. Keep us updated. The grip does seem a little nicer on the 4th Gen's but then again, everyone knows how I feel about the grip angle argument.

Glad you bought one. I am thinking about getting either the gen 4 glock 17 or gen 3 glock 17 rtf next weekend. The only thing I want to know is, Are they putting the new lighter spring on the gen 4 or are they still putting in the glock 22 spring. I heard that some people are having hang-up problems. Do you know anything about that? http://www.gtdist.com/ProductDetail.aspx?PartNumber=GLOCK-PG17502 This is not the store where I am buying mine but it's the same price.

From what I understand, the dual recoil spring on the Gen4 Glocks is actually a heavier spring than on the Gen 3's.

I have a Gen4 17 with the heavier Spring not the 02 Spring. It has been super reliable for me. The key is run 100-200 rounds of 124gr ammo through it like American Eagle or Winchester Nato to loosen it up a bit. After that it will shoot about anything perfectly. Before I did that it would sometimes Stovepipe on Monarch or Winchester White Box Ammo. So the new one does seem to need a small breakin, but if you follow Bob's 1000 round trigger job this shouldn't be a problem. Or shoot 200 rounds of your carry ammo through it like Bob suggests as that would break ti in as well. It is sprung for a NATO load (+P).

How about some feedback from G19 4th generation shooters? Since the G19's my favorite, I've never shot the 4th Gen thought, but I know there are people on this forum who have.

Bob, I plan on purchasing my Gen. 4 G19 very soon and would love to have you shoot it. I also don't believe in the Grip Angle argument. I never knew there was an argument until I read about it on-line. Before any knowledge of this topic, I was shooting a 1911, a Beretta and a Glock with no though on the grip angle at all. They all shot well. The Gen. 4 Glocks sure look nice, but like you I have not shot one yet.

I have not had the opportunity to shoot any Gen4 Glock yet. I look forward to it. Are they much different?

The grip on my gen 4 G17 is both more comfortable and has more traction than the gen 3 G17 I owned. I am loving the larger magazine release too.
So far I have not had any issues with the pistol after 500 rounds.

The larger magazine release is probably a definite plus. Seems like Glock designed it so that it can't easily be pressed by accident. Thanks for the report.

I think you are right on the money Bob.
The new magazine release still needs a good positive, purposeful press to release the magazine, yet it is in a position that I can get to it without repositioning my hand too much on the grip.
During the MAG-40 class I attended last month, I was having some issues quickly finding the mag release on my gen 3 G19. Practice corrected the issue but I did have to take a less stable grip in the handle to access it. I think I may not have had the same issue with my new gun. I'll have to find out next year when my training budget is replenished!
