First, I want to say that I found Episode 94 very useful. I'm really wanting to get out to the range and try shooting my 1911 with my thumb on the safety like Steve Zopfi described. Thank you both for some good tips.

Second, congratulations on your new job Bob! It's hard to switch jobs these days, but I know things are different in Texas.

And now to the question. It's 1" from the web of my hand to the striker in my XD. What is this distance on a Glock? I'm beginning to think that for typical close range gunfighting, the Glock vs. X grip angle debate is moot, and now I'm wondering if the same is true of the Glock vs. X bore height difference.

Personally, I think the XD sits too high in my hand (bore axis too high.)  That's me, YMMV.  I've never measured the hand to striker distance, but I've owned 2 XD's in the past and while they are fine guns, they weren't as easy for me to shoot.

I understand Bob. I'm not trying to start another XD vs. Glock or .45 vs. 9mm type of debate. I was just curious what the difference was.

Your podcast already addressed how recoil can be used or ignored by comparing two pro-shooters' grip with one using a tight recoil-less grip while the other rides the recoil predictably.

I carry a Glock 19 now, but I recently shot my friends XD .45 ACP.

I like the XD and it shot very well for me at the range.  The one thing I noticed is that the bore axis caused more muzzle flip than the Glock.  This is not that big of an issue but when I started to rapid fire, I found it very difficult to get the gun to settle back down on the target.  The faster I shot, the more I found a problem with the muzzle flip.

On Glocks website, they list the barrel height (or web to barrel distance) as 1.26" for the G19.
