I know there are a number of facilities in the DFW area that offer various training but I'm interested in the bigger names.
What will it take to get someone like Mas Ayoob to come to DFW to teach a Mag-40 class?
Maybe there is someone in the industry that reads this forum that could handle all the scheduling, organizing, etc... that goes along with a visiting instructor :-)
What say you all?  Who would you like to train with?
(Tyler & Mingus TX are too far, let's keep it in the DFW area)

My choices are as follows:

1) Mag-40, Mas Ayoob
2) Combat Focus & Adv. Pistol, Rob Pincus - I.C.E.
3) Close Range Gun fighting, Suarez Intl.
4) Defensive Pistol Skills, Suarez Intl.
5) Point Shooting Gunfight Skills, Suarez Intl.
+ Matt Burkett, Rob Leatham, ?  (for IDPA/USPSA training)

Seems like none of the good trainers have DFW on their schedule.  Lots of people here willing to take classes.

There are probably not too many ranges in the area that would work. Elm Fork might work, Dallas Pistol Club seems a little restricted with sweeping angles during reloads and that might not be acceptable during a class. That's probably why most trainers prefer ranges outside of DFW.

I thought of Elm Fork too.  They've conducted a lot of law enforcement training there.

This is why I want to buy lots of land.  I can invite the big name trainers and create a training facility for Texans.

You buy the land Damian and I will be more than happy to come over and shoot out there.  Tongue  That is the one drawback of moving away from the midwest for me, my Grandma has 300 acres of land in Iowa that I can go shoot on pretty much whenever I want, but don't get up north that often (and I usually fly so I don't take my guns with me on the plane).

Since I'm not getting much in the way of responses from this site I'll try posting this on a few others that I read and see what happens.

If nobody is responding, it's because we don't know how to get the big name trainers down here.  Maybe if we got a large group of people on paper, willing to pay for a big name trainer to come down.  We can send them a letter and convince them to come down.

If we have enough people lined up to pay for training, I am sure it would be worth their time to come down.

At the very least, the trainer would tell us how many people we needed to round up for them to come down and train us.

Just a thought.

We might be able to use the Tacpro range. It's outdoors, about an hour west from downtown Fort Worth.

Rob Pincus wrote about how to get a big name trainer to come to YOUR city a few months back: http://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/articles/defensive-firearm-training/how-to-host-a-training-course/

There are a lot of good regional trainers in our area if you don't mind driving a little bit though. It would be nice to see a class by a trainer with unique content like Mas' Mag 20 or Mag 40 classes. The Mag 20 shouldn't be too hard to arrange since from my understanding is that you just need a classroom.

I simply don't have the time with work and 2 podcasts, to arrange a class here but I would certainly like to promote it on my show and on this forum and fill it up!  And of course, be a student. So if any of the DFW area listeners would like to take the lead, I will support you in a big way. Let me know.

I've spoken with Jon Payne of Suarez Intl. and he gave me some pretty good info.  I need to research some more and find a range.  We'll see what I can do.

They did a writeup on the MAG-40 class in the latest issue of concealed carry magazine and I have to admit the class sounds amazing.  I would love to be able to take it some day.

How much range space is necessary? I took my CHL class at Cabelas in Fort Worth and the qualification was done across the highway in a dude's cow pasture. He just arranges with people to use his field for a small fee. I'm sure he has limitations but if there was a concept of how many people would fill the class we could at least approach him.

From what I can gather the range needs to be able to hold 10-15 people side by side, so about 50' wide, 25 yrds deep, and have berms on 3 sides (6' + high).  Prefer grass but the ground needs to be somewhat level for movement.

Sounds like Alpine near Everman, just a tad southeast of Fort Worth.

Orclin, what class is that for? I was reading the Suarez site and from my understanding they only need wood in front.

I would guess it's for most of the classes that they offer.  But after speaking with Jon Payne of SI those are the criteria that he asked for, maybe in reference to the 3 classes I selected on my list.

I live about 2.5 hours from Ft. Worth in Abilene. I would absolutely be willing to make the drive for a big name trainer, or any good trainer for that matter. I have a friend attending a fire academy in the Metroplex and I'm almost certain that he would want to attend as well.

On a side note, I've been contemplating that if I were to come into some extra money in the coming years (god forbid), that I might consider buying up a small parcel of land out of town, buying a few truck loads of dirt for some berms, and hiring a dozer service to come build a little range for me.
