I wasn't going to purchase any guns this year, but I came across this and just couldn't resist.  While I was in Las Vegas last week, my brother took me to a friends house who was selling some guns.  He had a very nice Colt Detective Special .38 in pristine condition, but my younger brother bought that one right away.  Then, the lady had this rifle.  I've always wanted a .308 caliber rifle.  This beauty is in excellent condition, it hasn't been fired much.  It also wears a very nice Leopold scope.  I wanted it!  Then I asked her, "how much."  Her answer was, "how much cash do you have."  So I looked in my wallet and I found $80.  She thought about it for 15 seconds or so and said, "OK, sold."  So I snapped it up.  I shipped it to my FFL ($16) and he will charge me $20 next Tuesday or Wednesday when I pick it up.  So I will have a grand total of only $116 invested in this thing!

I think it's rare to come across deals like this and now I've got my .308 that I've wanted.  I'll do a review after I get to the range.  I may not be able to afford giving this a 1,000 round trigger job, but I'll run a couple hundred through it.  It's a Savage 99E, lever action.  I can't remember the model of the Leopold scope, but once I get it and inspect it, I'll let you know how it shoots.  Here's a picture of one just like it, what do you think?

How much did your brother have to pay to pick up the Detective Special?

Bob,

Stephen Ricciardelli has the largest collection of firearm manuals in PDF format that I know of anywhere on the Internet. A quick search found the Savage 99. Enjoy

Also he has a very nice collection of illustrated part breakdowns for firearms and a small archive book collection of firearm related and reloading related books.

Bob,

That's a great old rifle. I have one that I got from my father, in .300 Savage. I particularly like the little window on the side that shows how many rounds in the magazine. I can't believe the price - outstanding buy.

Mark,

What a find for manuals. There is just all KINDS of stuff there.

$50.  Can you believe it, it's in pristine condition.  If he wasn't my brother I would have moved him out of the way and offered $75.
