Hello everyone,

"Last week, H.R. 822, was introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Heath Shuler (D-N.C.).  The measure would allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed carry permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms. A state's laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within its borders. The bill also applies to Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and U.S. territories.

H.R. 822 would not create a federal licensing system.  Rather, it would require the states to recognize each others' carry permits, just as they recognize drivers' licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards. Rep. Stearns has introduced such legislation since 1995."

Guess it's time to send my e-mail to my representative. Unfortunately, this doesn't help me in the Soviet State of Illinois, where the politicians are too afraid of the citizens to allow them the right to carry and protect themselves.

Last time they tried this the Dem-controlled House passed it and it only missed by 1 vote in the Dem-controlled Senate.  My understanding is both houses are very pro gun right now.  It just might make it this time.

If he doesn't sign it but doesn't veto it will it still go into law after a set amount of time like a state law would?

Well, I wrote my state rep a respectfull and firm letter urging him to support the bill. I do not feel optamistic, and I'm sure my representatives are getting sick of hearing from me, but, they volunteered to represemt me. Even if I am relegated to the congressional junk mail box, I would not be able to live with myself if I did not make my voice heard. www.congress .org is the site i use. ihighly recommend it to all. It allows you to follow all of the votes of your representatives and provides easy ways to contact them. It also has an easy spell check function, which i obviously need and cannot locate here.

Up to 94 co-sponsors;

Obama may have to sign if this if it's attached to a bill he really wants to be come law.  Like he did with carry in national parks attached to credit card reform.  He has to be getting desperate for a score in his column.  It will be a while but with his track record to date and 2012 coming he is going to have a chance to get votes from the center/right.  I don't think he will and reciprocity may not pass but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

So far mostly he's been an ideolog. But politicians are nothing if not "maleable" so we shall see how he responds. So far his overall record is pretty abysmal, but then I'm a conservative.

This is my week to try to be nice. I have a friend in the hospital, another that just died unexpectedly, and it seems that I need to concentrate on cheerful ideas. Thinking of 0b isn't, so I am trying to make the best of it.

All my thoughts and prayers for your friend and my condolences for your loss.  My mother-in-law and my wife were both recently in the hospital and we lost our beloved four-legged son a couple months ago.  I know were your at Brother.  Just keep on strokin'.

How does this apply to folks who have a non-resident permit from an state but not in their own state. A lot of Californians are in this situation.

Here's the link for the text of the bill.  It's a quick read:

Seems very well written and a valid use of the commerce clause (just like making Drivers licenses from any state valid in all states that accept them).

I think this is one of the best bills out there. As long as it gets passed and not vetoed. The latter is what I am the most concerned about.
