Well, after many years of asking, I finally got my wife to go shooting. I got her her own pistol (a Springfield EMP 9mm) and convinced her to come out to try it out. It took some bargaining, and I'm going to have to swallow some pride when she holds me to my end of it, but worth it.

I think I've mentioned it before, she's not "anti", just doesn't really care about guns. She shot a little in 4-H as a kid, but that's the extent of her experience. I kept the targets close and the pressure low. She actually did pretty well, but it wasn't nearly as fun for her as it was for me. She's just not into it - I'm going to have to be careful not to push her too much, but it would be nice to share the experience with her, as well as get her to appreciate the security/preparedness aspect.

Well it's a start at least. Maybe if I could get her to go without me and get some training separately. My local range is having a "ladies day" in a couple weeks, with instructors available. My little girl, who loves to shoot and is my little shooting buddy, has been asking mom to take her so they can shoot together. That would be good if she'll go to that. But, I'm not going to push her too hard to go, don't want to chase her away from it.

At least I got her to try it once, didn't think I'd get that far. And it only cost me an EMP, and an eyebrow waxing (remember my end of the bargain?) Maybe she won't remember...I doubt it.

Does that mean we start calling you Panhead Nobrow now?  Grin

Hey Nobrow, how do you like that EMP, or more importantly, how does SWMBO like it? My only advice is let her decide when she wants to shoot, and don't cajole, push, shove, or even mention it. Just tell her you enjoyed being out there with her, and say thank you. She may never go shooting again, but just be happy that you had this opportunity. That's better than never going shooting at all with her.

Biker, that's exactly the route I'm taking and we'll see what happens. SWMBO didn't say too much about what she thought about the EMP, though she shot fairly well with it. She doesn't really have anything to compare it to, she didn't want to fire any of mine.

I liked it. For me it was definitely different, being used to shooting larger calibers. One thing I noticed is that it's really sensitive to limp-wristing. When my wife shot it, it wouldn't lock back after last round, although for me it locked every time. However, I took it out today for some drills and had some failures to feed - think I was limp-wristing it.

Now I'm going to have to get my eyebrows waxed in exchange for her going with me, hell I suppose with these bushy things it couldn't make me look any worse. Wink

If nothing else, a gentle reminder that being capable of saving your child's life could be dependent on your proficiency with a gun. Always make sure you have a gun close at hand, one that you are comfortable and capable with.
