lol, mentioning Romney gave me a cold chill too . I'm just a bit concerned that he pass measures before then. Maybe we'll be lucky and he's waiting to get reelected first. It's no good having to hope for a lucky election to preserve our rights. On the plus side any imperial decrees from Obama will be denounced by both sides with 14 vulnerable Democrat Senate seats in play too.

The concern is between the election and inauguration. Lame duck stuff. I am not too hopefull that the Republicans will put up a winnable choice either. They seem to put up people that have no hope of winning and think the base will come through. The base left for greener pastures. A third party will just about guarantee the idiots re election too. Ross Perot sound familiar? Without him Clinton would never have been elected.

"You won't get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens. There's only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up and if you don't actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time. It's a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun controllers. I happen to know this from personal experience." ~Ronald Reagan

The elephant in the room is the gigantic bureaurocracy. I would hazzard to guess that were you to poll the BATF, you would find an absolutely stunning number of anti-gun freaks. Much of the same kind of problem exists within the State Department, which ends up being the non-promogulation of OUR (meaning American) point of view, and the coddling of leftist ideas. Perhaps some of this can be traced to the basically leftist college professorship, but I suspect it is more sinister in that leftist tend to move to government jobs, since they are advocates of government control. As such, furthering governmental control is at the top of THEIR agendas also.
Elected officials come and go. Look at the recent election in NY, where a basically Republican district elected a Democratic turkey. Too much of the populace is simply uneducated, or unwilling to BECOME educated. I am forever stunned at how much the Americans of 150 years ago knew and understood about such things as federalism, freedom, tyranny, etc. Today we seem to have simply forgotten so much of those very basic concepts.
2A and gun rights are only one of the many rights we ought to be guarranteed. I often hear repeated how gun ownership means the ability to protect the rest of our rights. Truth to tell, I see it more as an attitudinal thing. IF you stand for gun rights, THEN you have an overall view of liberty and freedom - and rights - that corresponds to mine, and to what the Founding Fathers envisioned for us. Yes, there is the fact that being armed makes it "possible" to rebel, but in practical terms, that possibility is remote. Even on this forum there are probably few that would SERIOUSLY consider fighting to keep their guns physically - against a band of cops that came to take them. Look at New Orleans. People there gave up their weapons without a fight - and that was clearly illegal action. We may be FOR guns and our personal protection, but we are hardly such diehard right wing radicals that we would be willing to rise up INDIVIDUALLY to fight for our guns - and so other rights, too. Perhaps if there was some general rising we would join, but I suspect few if any would simply refuse, and shoot it out if so pressed.
So when we talk about 2A, we really are talking about a "view", an attitude, a way of thinking. THAT would have to be what we need to spread throughout the nation. We do reasonably well with just guns, and things like CCW, but there is more at stake - or we lose everything, including this nation.

The Left can stand around and make all the noise about gun control that they want, but 0b wants to be re-elected! He isn't all that popular at the moment, and I believe he has made the decision that any further gun control moves BEFORE the election could very well lose him the election - and it WOULD be just another nail in the coffin.
But I sense that those opposed to him on 2A issues are not likely to vote FOR him no matter what he says or does. And the economy is currently burying him for many of the other "hopey-changey" bunch.

I like what Romney said during last week's debate about any of the candidates on the stage with him would be a better President than B-HO. Perry getting into it will bring a whole new dynamic. Should be interesting. And God forbid Obama does get a second term...Katey bar the door on gun control.
