Dan, you've had fantastic luck with Skype...
When you interviewed Massad Ayoob, and Gail Pepin, you were using Skype, as I recall... You were in Japan, and Mas & Gail in the USA...
NOSEY question coming...
Are you paying for Skype somehow?
I am having absolutely no damn luck with it!
Jim.

What exactly are you trying to do jim?
It works fine for me, but there some things you can do vie your router to make it a bit more reliable, like port forwarding and such.
If you are trying to record conversations, you will need an additional application like Call Burner or Skype Recorder.

Ah.... You called it right Dan. I wanna try and start recording conversations. Perhaps the other party might be able to help.
That I didn't know or realize. I really don't have much of a clue as to where to begin to start with Skype. I had no idea that it required additional software to record, ugh!

Thanks Mark, for moving this question. I didn't think about where to post it, before I started typing.
Sorry about that.

Type "Skype" in the search here on the discussion forum and you will come up with quite a few results that may help. It's a question that has been asked quite a bit.

You can also get a way with not using an extra app to record a call if you use a mixer and the mixminus technique. Of course that involves having some hard ware rather than a free app. But it's an option.
My Empty Mags episode #15 was done this way, a call into my google voice account on one laptop. Her call sound out from that laptop into the mixer, my sound into the mixer, and from the mixer to the recorder. I could have done a bit better job on the EQ with her voice, and she could have had a little bit better connection and stop moving the phone away from her face, but overall I think it worked out quite nicely. Using Google Voice instead of Skype allowed her to call from a real phone, and I didn't have to pay for the Skype number.
Edit to add: interesting note: Google voice has an option called "echo cancellation" which pretty effectively achieves what mixer mixminus does.

Thanks!
Jason, for the time being, it's most likely going to be just me. However, I must warn you, sir ... you've made a friend! Me!
I am going to be picking your brain thru and thru!
Take Care,
Jim

I am always willing to help. I'm fairly new at this myself so there are probably better brains to pick, but mines available when it can be of use! Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
