Just curious about what the Pro Arms take is on the Walther PPQ? I think it's a pretty good looking gun, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it. Anyone shot it yet?

Sorry, Scott, but not from me anyway. I have not been able to get my hands on one yet. Don't know about the rest of the crew, but I suspect that they have not had hands on one yet either.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I picked one up and I love this gun. Great trigger, grip and accuracy! I'll be looking forward to hearing how you guys like it when you get a chance to handle and shoot one.

I have a Walther P99AS and love it. I can't tell the difference between a P99QA and the PPQ, aside from some aesthetics on the grip. It's probably a great gun but I'll take a P99 over it any day simply due to the RFID chip planted in the grip. Tom Gresham recently discussed this issue on GunTalk. It is now a documented occurrence where those RFID chips in guns have set off the theft sensors in stores, resulting in the person carrying having a very uncomfortable discussion with store management and security.

Thanks for the reply Michael! As I understand it, the US models do not have the RFID chip. They have been manufactured along with the European models so there is a cut out for that in the grip, but the models that are shipped to the US are not coming with the transponder (at least that's what it says in the literature that comes with the gun, and on everything I've read so far).
If you have a link to the thread on Glock Talk where they actually pull apart the gun and demonstrate the transponder chip is present, I'd be interested in reading that. So far, I haven't found any reference to the RF chip being present in the US models.
Thanks again! Scott

Scott,
The reference to RFID on GunTalk was on the radio show. I'm not sure what episode. Also, it wasn't specifically related to the PPQ but RFID markers in general. As for the PPQ, you may be correct. My only reference was a stop at Cabelas where I looked over a PPQ (since I like the P99 so much). When I looked at the grip, the backstrap was marked with wording that indicated an RFID was present. I did not disassemble to verify there was one there. I took the wording at face value. I would be happy to be mistaken. If they are removing it from the American market then it's bad marketing (in my opinion) to leave the wording on the firearm itself as there are likely a few folks like me that would take the wording at face value...

Michael,
Agreed... Walther has I guess made a point to offer different backstrap/grip options to those Americans who want them (without the RFID placeholder).

I've been very curious to hear Mas and crew's take on the PPQ as well as the other new firearms of late. PPQ, P224, P938, FNS-9, etc...mainly the PPQ though

My friend just bought a PPQ with those markings on the backstraps (all the backstraps). According to Walther they do NOT contain an RFID in the American sold guns and Walther has said they will replace them with unmarked backstraps if a person wishes. We were curious if they were blowing smoke about the RFID or not so we x-rayed the gun and all the backstraps. There was nothing in the backstraps. So we're good to go! I'd post the video we shot but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to in here yet. As a new forum member I'd rather not disregard the rules!

Dittos here. My P99AS has just a wonderful grip and overall feel. Never had a failure to feed. Its a great alternative to glock if you desire a DA/SA trigger system. Most glock fans I've shown it to don't like it though (thought the trigger was wierd). I suspect the PPQ was designed with them in mind. These are a highly accurate pistol. I took a pepsi challenge with a few friends. We all took shots with the P99, Glock 17, Sig 2022, Beretta PX4, and S&W Sigma. The Walther was the only gun to score in the top two for all shooters.
