Well, interesting.  Funny how some in congress always feel the need to "do" something by passing a bill for this or that when really they need to "undo" so many things.  Why don't they just lobby each of their states to constitutional carry and be done with it.

Well, politicians do politics. We, the general population could just follow around...

I would consider modifying that slightly to "politicians do POWER". It is totally a power trip to demand that citizens get "permission" to bear arms, much like it is power to make citizens get "permission" to operate vehicles, and follow all the traffic laws - or we will take your right away. Now we need "permission" to enter the "safe area" of an airport (?do you really feel that much safer) within which you are STILL subject to various and sundry searches and demands contrary to the 4th Amendment. The amount of private property that this obnoxious organization has "confiscated" for allegedly being "dangerous" is absolutely mind-boggling. But it goes on - 9+ years now with no end in sight.

Governments do power. THey instinctively seek its aquisition, and only back off when soundly rapped over the knuckles or nose. Do not expect to see any real readjustment in attitude without serious realignment of political forces. Note the serious push-back to the Tea Party - by BOTH democrats AND old line republicans. The Tea Party represents a move of power away from the government and to the people - it is to be resisted in whatever form possible. The current move to draft Chris Christie is nothing more than an attempt to find someone who is friendly to the old republican ideas (statism small) to replace the current crop of those who are not.
