New Revolver

Being as how I've been playing with rifles mostly I figured it was time to look for a new handgun to satisfy that urge.

As I was trollong through the local gunshop my eye spied a 5.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag. I immediately conjured up a use for it, back up to my hunting rifle, and plunked my money on the counter.

I'm a single action fan, pistol and revolver, and much prefer a single action revolver when out hunting as a defensive arm. Cowboy Action Shooting teaches one how to run those old fashioned smokewagons with good speed and accuracy. Also I like the single actions when out and about in the woods from a safety standpoint. Call me old fashioned but being on a horse on an elk hunt just calls for a Single Action in my mind. The adjustable sights just makes this a more practical sidearm compared to my fixed sight single action revolvers. Now I just need to remember to cock the bloody hammer when that brown bear is charging me.

For what I intend to use this for primative is better. 

Pushing a 320 Grain bullet at almost 1200 fps takes a stronger platform than a bottomfeeder and I don't like shooting S&W since they put in the Hillary Hole.

Yeah, 12.5's are pretty "primitive" too, and I wouldn't want to get in the way of one of those.  (?See the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Morriarty made the comment, "That's not fair" when Watson deployed a "primitive" weapon - a cannon. Proving once again that bigger is better, until you get to biggest - and if the BG has it, time to run fast.)

Biker, there is a guy up in Alaska that makes a neat holster for big hunting guns. I have one for my Desert Eagle. It is designed to be a vertical "shoulder" holster, but actually hangs in front of you. AND it's designed to be worn OUTSIDE your jacket, so it is readily available. On a horse it just might be the thing.

This is not a concealment holster but a practical working one, made for the outdoors. Good workmanship, carries a big gun like a DE well, and is instantly available right in front of you. I wear it on my left front when I go hunting, in case I put my rifle down for some reason and need to grab a weapon quickly. There seems to be plenty of adjustment for "little guys" like me.

I've got her bigger sister: the 7.5" barrel.  Big fun - even if I can't hit the side of the dang planet with it.  Bill Ruger and his @#$%^&* tiny hands.   

Take the grips off and drop one leg of the trigger spring off the peg.  Does wonders for the trigger weight.
