I didn't know California still allowed shooting to be taught. You know, because it's evil.

This must be a regional thing, my son was in scouting for only a few years (Chicago) but there was never any talk of guns or marksmanship.

Gail

Gail, It really depends on the Troop.  I got my first introduction into firearms at Camp Makajawan with Troop 9 up in Wilmette.  We started shooting bolt action .22's.  Somehow, I managed to get my rifleman merit badge in 3 days.  Musta peaked at that point in time, because I can't seem to get 3 shots in a group that tight anymore  Roll Eyes

That said, my cousin is in scouts in Chicago (not sure what troop, but they live in the newer Dearborn park area, if you are familiar with downtown) and they also have offered it, but the parents must sign a waiver and release (from what I've been told) if they are actually to be able to even just touch a gun.

Well it's a fairly well-kept secret.  Look, anyone who still puts their kids into Scouts in SF or LA has a lot of guts since there is sort of an unofficial boycott of scouting after BSA v. Dale.  So if a parent is willing to still do Scouting, chances are they don't buy into much other PC BS.
