I've been hearing rumblings lately about another potential run on guns and ammo, in anticipation of the upcoming election.  I guess it's based on the potential of Obama winning.  I can't decide if there is any legitimacy to this, or just ramblings of people who enjoy ruffling the feathers of others.

At the same time, I remember the run after the 2008 election, and how difficult it was for months to locate primers and ammo in certain calibers (especially 10mm).  I'm wondering if it would be wise to stock up now on things I might have acquired later this year.

Do you anticipate a run on guns and/or ammo?  If so, do you plan to stock up prior to the election?

Starting to hoard primers and bullets.  And 22LR.

Not only because the threat that BHO poses to our firearm rights, but also because of the inflation that all this "stimulus" will cause. Real inflation is said to be 8 - 11%, with more almost certain to come.

I'm stocking up as much as possible on ammo, especially.  Also, don't forget to stock up on normal capacity magazines!  Because of inflation and the political winds.   I think we can expect this every 4 years.

?Just how much more of a run are your expecting. These last couple years have been the single highest selling years for firearms and ammo IN HISTORY. It would be hard to have much more of a "run".

That said, ?why don't you actually have a significant number of rounds. It isn't so much that there's a run, it's that you ought to have that kind of "insurance" regardless. HEAVEN FORBID the government makes attempts to seize guns. This country won't go quietly like Britain or Australia. That kind of apocalypse happens, you need a stock - of all kinds of things. Makes me wish I had learned to cast and had the equipment for same.

I can't hurt to buy 1 or 2 boxes of ammo or two per week for a while just in case there is a repeat of '08.

If no shortage occurs, you will have likely bought your ammo at a lower price than it will be later, and if a shortage does occur, you will have enough ammo to practice and train with until a shortage eases.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that stocking up would be a good idea.  Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Been stocking up on primers/bullets/powder a little at a time this whole year.  Found a really good sale on the hornady zmax bullets this last weekend--I don't care if they have a red tip or green tip, they shoot well.  Election time might cause me to shoot my odd calibers again...

I anticipate a run based on the way the Republican Race is going and I plan on buying at least another case of 9mm in the next month as well as a few more standard capacity mags.

Hi cap magazines are always a good investment - if they should suddenly be disallowed, you already have yours.

this

you shouldn't "hoard."  That is the irrational accumulation of items for psychological reasons.  BUT...there is a reason to think that a decent chance exists that full capacity magazines will become scarce through shortage or legislation.

Analyze your need and shop accordingly.

I have X number of semi-auto rifles.  As a policy I keep enough magazines to hold two basic loads of ammo (210 in 5.56 and 140 in .308).  For pistols basic load is one in the weapon and two spares (high cap) or four (single stack).  Plus I keep extras of all because I practice.  Which means I step on them once in a while and need to get rid of one.

A few extras in case of damage would be a nice investment if they get scarce.

Additional:  I think there is an acknowledgement that a magazine ban that grandfathers pre-existing mags is silly.  If they do one they will try to shove through banning them all or banning the resale of them (basically if you own one that is fine but you cannot sell or give them to anyone else).  So have a plan, dont tie up your life savings in them.
