My letter to CA DFG

CA libs are all up in arms about the president of the CA DFG going on a mountain lion hunt in Idaho (see link to article).  http://www.mercurynews.com/science/ci_19992359

A colleague of mine posted on Facebook an open letter to the DFG Committee calling for his removal from office, so I accordingly sent the following letter to DFG, and posted it on FB:


Dear Fish & Game Commission,

I have seen reports and social media comments regarding Mr. Richards' apparent mountain lion hunt in Idaho. The knee-jerk, emotional cries for Mr. Richards' removal from the commission are inappropriate and out of line.

Mr. Richards did not commit any unlawful or unethical act. From all reports that I have seen, Mr. Richards complied with all applicable state laws and regulations while hunting in Idaho, as many hunters for dangerous game do every year.

Please keep in mind that the CA ban on hunting mountain lions was not based on credible scientific studies of the effect of hunting them, as most regulations regarding wildlife preservation, but on certain groups' moral opposition to hunting. Accordingly, untold revenue is lost to the state from responsible hunters being sent out of state to ethically hunt dangerous wild game.

Mr. Richards should not be penalized in any way for his Idaho mountain lion hunt.

I also posted the following on FB: I'M APPALLED! That the director of CA DFG, would go to Idaho, where it's legal to hunt mountain lions, and hunt a mountain lion - and then not include in his photo the weapon he used to take the animal! I wanna know what type of gun he used - Was it a big bore revolver, a lever gun, a bolt action, what caliber???

Actually, the article said a Winchester - i don't remember what caliber. But that didn't fit with my sarcasm. That was actually my first post, then I thought about it and realized that animal rights nuts were mailing DFG- but it's not like they'd see my FB post. So I figured I'd send a note so the libs weren't the only ones they're hearing from.

The liberals would probably desire to see this guy shot and are oblivious to their own hypocrisy. I personally don't know how he voted on the proposition but they have no say in running this man's private life.

I scan every gun-related story in the news hoping to see the firearm id but I don't remember seeing a single one. Either reporters are clueless or there is a reason for leaving it out. Guess I destined to live in disappointment on this manner.

The article I posted above id's it as a "Winchester centennial .45 carbine."

It was actually a ballot measure passed by the voters in 1990. You can't blame me, it was before I turned 18 and could vote.

Unless his terms of employment forbid him from lawful hunting, wouldn't his dismissal be grounds for a very strong wrongful termination case?

I suspect that the only time you will see gun ID is when they can make some stupid claim about it - "assault rifle" is an example. Most of the time such claims are bogus, but they sound good. Too bad defamation laws don't cover this kind of character assassination.
