First of all THANK HIM. I'm an immeasurably better shooter after taking their weekend course. I didn't get my patch, but I will after I improve my skills, equipment, practice habits, and w@rk crawls out of the bottomless pit of suck. I also understand much better the sacrifices of our founding fathers and my responsibilities as a citizen and heir to civilization born in blood some 235 years ago.
Does Appleseed continue to grow? I hope so. A year ago, our Orange Hats were talking about exponential growth even here in Cali.
Any thoughts about expanding the training into shotguns and handguns? Both would be essential in a modern day militiaman's arsenal. Do trainees really understand the philosophical basis of the training? Their responsibilities as citizens in protecting freedom?
And finally...
Has the movement been blessed with an examination by Big Sis and Homeland Security?

Doc;
Can you ask him about plans for the future structure of Appleseed? The organization is getting large enough and diverse enough I am wondering if they are going to take a page from the Boy Scouts of America and introduce a small corps of professionals to run the national level. That is not a criticism of the current national volunteers, its just that organizational skill and ability (guided by the vision of the organization of course) of the level needed for a large organization does not come free, it has to be payed. I personally think the organization will culminate at some point without that step. That is how the scouting movement and the red cross survived becoming truly large organizations.

Appleseed guy here, been an RWVA Instructor for 3 years now. I have been involved in a few organization but none that give the satisfaction of Appleseed. If someone has not been to an Appleseed, what are you waiting for? I will be looking forward to your interview with "Fred". Have a date yet?

Cat, Where are you located at? Hope to get him this week. He offered to let me attend an AS second week in Dec. Which I surely intend to take advantage of.. this will also allow me to interview the whole group as well, before, during and after the course. Very anxious to get to this one. Mysterious Fred seems to be right on in my book! Ahead of time.. and I haven't asked him this yet.. how did he get the moniker "Fred?" I realize Fred's is his business.. but do you know how that came about? Thx...

I have worked in IN. the last 2 weekends but going to south eastern KY this weekend. Yes go but don't plan on much time for interviews during as it is 2 fun filled days of what we call drinking from the fire hose. Myself I have never met Fred, seems like every time I think I am going to get a chance I end up being in a different place than I intended. Fred is the name of the dog. He is alright in my book too Doc. Have fun and enjoy. If it doesn't work out I will be having a shoot in southern IN. on Dec 31. we will shoot under the lights and ring in the new year with a midnight volley.

... I and almost three dozen showed up on a wet and muddy morning last week to learn of our shared American heritage that began on that day in April 19, 1775 through the Appleseed Project. We were also interested in learning the skills that made Timothy Murphy the most famous marksman of his day and helped create the legend of Morgan’s Riflemen. Sheltered on the firing line from a light rain and threatening thunderstorms, we learned the history of our founders, of the moral choices and civic duty that they knew would be the most important and most fragile elements of liberty. And we fired rifles. A lot... Read it all: The Appleseed Project: History, Character, and Rifles Great article. HT: PJ Media

Yes brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. The tear is that as a nation our Heroes like Samual Whittemore and their stories are not known by most people unless they have attended an Appleseed. But a smile because I know this guy "Got IT" and now understands and is taking that seventh step to firing the shot.

I am really looking forward to this interview. Appleseed is one of my top shooting priorities for the near future. I finally have my equipment and ammo that I need for it, just need to find time to do it. I am hoping to go to at least the first day of it before my mother-in-law goes back home so that she can help out my wife with the kids while I go. I just need to tweak my 10/22 one more time before I go, it doesn't seem to like the recoil buffer I put in so I am going to take that out and hopefully get it tested and ready to run this weekend.
