I went last weekend to an NRA class, Personal Protection Outside the Home. I can't recommend this enough as a great class for your average person who wants to conceal carry but isn't necessarily a "gun person". My instructors are great and for everyone in the DFW area I highly recommend going to Shootsafe Academy.

This class covered drawing from concealment, point shooting, shooting from retention, shooting from behind cover, and to top it off my instructors had a box full of gun purses so that we could practice and learn how to draw from a purse correctly and safely. They even had the guys use the gun purses because "You can't teach what you don't know". Talk about a photo opportunity, I wish I'd had my camera!! These tough looking guys all lines up with shooting vests and tactical pants....and purses.

Lessons learned:
Put your gear through the paces. My gun belt isn't a true gun belt. I think it's time to invest in a real gun belt. It holds my gun and holster just fine when I conceal carry but when I draw it isn't stiff enough and allows pulls up when I try to draw.

I decided to take my glock 22. I have a new 9mm conversion barrel from lone wolf and I bought three brand new glock factory magazines. One of the magazines actually failed. It caused several double feeds and then fell out of the gun without my hitting the magazine release. Conversion barrel was fantastic btw!

Gun purses are a good idea but I didn't actually experience an advantage. Basically, a purse doesn't have to be a gun purse to work. When you buy a purse make sure you get one with a pocket on the outside that is large enough to hold your gun. It needs to be a dedicated pocket for your gun and it's best to be on the outside. Get a pocket holster and some heavy duty velcro. Place the velcro in the pocket and on your holster, get the holster situated correctly, and voila you have a gun purse.

Good report, Penguin. My daughter lives in Dallas. I might point her towards this for CCW training.

Excellent review.  I also wish you had some pictures.  That would be hilarious.  Once again, this is an example of "why training."  Educate the brain.  The gun is the tool.  Thanks for sharing!
