Trijicon Tritium Sights

Hi, I was out shooting my G17 the other day and my front sight just came off. (no idea where it is.. in the grass somewhere) I've never really thought about checking the screw on my sight to make sure it was tight before, Is this a very common thing that happens. Is there anything else that I should check on a regular basis.
Also, I'm thinking of getting a different set of sights, I like the night sights, what would you recommend?
Any info would be appreciated.

If I'm not using my RMR I prefer Warren Tactical Sights.  Plain black rear and either tritium front or plain black.

I have trijicon night sights in my Kahr CW9.
Those bright dots in the dark are huge help to my eyes.

Look at the Straight 8 sights.  I recommend getting away from the 3dot set up, in low light it is hard to tell what dot is what.  If you must run 3 dot sides have the front and rear different colors or black out the rear entirely.

I run a xs tritium dot (not the big dot) on the front, and factory rear with the dots painted over in black on my M&P.

+1 on the Warren Tactical Sights.  I've tried a bunch of sites and now have WT's on all three Glocks (17, 19 & 30).  I  have tritium fronts on all and have a single rear tritium on my 17, double rear tritium on my 30 and plain black on my 19.  I prefer the all black rear.  The tritium rear sites would only come into play if you decided to take a shot in a very dark area with no secondary illumination.  I hope I never face that scenario.

I really like the shape of the WT rear sights.  Great for one handed slide operation, but not "grabby" in a holster.

One last thing, I pay the $25 to have my sights installed by my gunsmith.  Warren recommends this and I like to know that my gunsmith and/or Warren would "make right" a problem such as the sight coming off the gun.  Also, Scott Warren is a great guy and responds quickly to my inquiries.

Probably a very good choice.  The wide U shaped notch in the rear, plus the tritium vials in the rear, without an outline, look like they won't distract your eyes from the front sight.  That's important.  One reason I've been using plain black rear sights with a tritium front is to keep my focus on the front sight.  These seem to give the shooter the front sight focus and still have tritium in the rear sight without the distraction.

Is it very common for the front sight to come off? The screw seems to be ok, I noticed there was no thread locker on it. Should there be?

I would use thread locker.  Not the real powerful kind, just the less powerful (blue..I think.)  It's not common for it to work it's way loose.

Make sure you use blue and not red. The red Loctite requires heat to remove...

Losing a front site is uncommon but happens.  If you have a new gun that you just bought you could call the dealer or Glock's customer service number and they will probably help you out with a new one.  Sounds like someone just forgot to tighten it all the way.

I can't wait to save enough money to buy an RMR to put on my Glock, until then I'm running Warren Tactical with a Tritium up front and plane black in the rear.  They are supper nice and big with a lot of space on either side of the front site when looking through the sites.  They are my new favorites.  I got them on a suggestion from Bob Mayne.  And the price was cheaper then most other night sites.

I haven't used them directly but I have heard good things about them.  If you buy the OEM Night sights on a Glock they are made by Meprolight (vs the Trijicon which you can also buy on the Glock for about $20 more than the "Glock" night sights).

I have experience with meprolight night sights on a Kahr PM9.  I don't like them.  The front sight is too large and the rear notch is too narrow.

Thanks guys.  The "white" dot on the front sight of my HK somehow was damaged and is coming out.  Besides a white nail polish fix (or free replacement from HK), I was looking for an alternative.

P.S. Bob, I have 2894 rounds through my USP Compact  40 S&W.  I'll soon get around to my 1000 round trigger job review.

Paul, I like your signature line.  Let me add...it's the "1,000 round trigger job" that accomplishes that purpose!
