Ben and I completed the "Intro to defensive handgun course" that we taught here in San Antonio. It was a huge success. We sold out early and based on the evaluations from students it was well received!  We will be doing another one called "Beyond Concealed Carry" on Sept 29th, 9am - 4pm. Cost is $125 and approximate round count will be 200 rounds. Check www.handgunworld.com for more details.

Come train with us!  Ben is an excellent instructor and does an even better job in person, than he does on my podcast. And that's pretty good!

Here's a couple pictures from the class. We had 4 women in the class which was good to see. Ben is on the right, I'm on the left.

Here's a quick video on my Facebook wall, http://www.facebook.com/handgunworld.show.9?ref=tn_tnmn

These three ladies did great.  Ben is giving the range commands, I'm the dude in the tan shirt giving encouragement.

I participated on this class and I had a blast…  Grin

I been involved with handguns for around a year and a half or so.  So, I'm a rookie at this and I was really interested in some Beginner type of class that starts from the very basics and keeps going up. (the only other class I taken is the one for my concealed handgun license)

Regarding the class, the atmosphere was very professional and everybody had a great attitude… from the beginning Ben and Bob were very focus on Safety, explaining the 4 safety rules and making sure everybody was in sync regarding the handling of the pistols at the range.

I enjoyed the whole thing but my favorites drills were the malfunction drills, how to position yourself when shooting around corners (example house defense) and shooting from kneeling position… things that I never done before and now I can take and practice over and over again.. very useful stuff.

Also for me, the discussion of mindset and self defense was a CRITICAL one. (one of the things that convinced me to continue improving and take more training in the future)

I also learned that I need to work on my trigger control, so I'll be doing lot of dry firing with my Gen4.  Grin

At the end of the day,  we did some friendly long distance shooting competition (one target/one bullet) and I was able to try other students guns (as an example I wanted to try the Shield)

This was my first training class other than my CHL and basically I will sum up it like this:
safe + lot of shooting + lot of fun + learning new different techniques = awesome day!

Can't go wrong with that!

This is the only photo I took, when Bob was showing us how to shoot from kneeling position.

Thanks,

Edwin

I just attended Ben and Bob's defensive pistol class. This was the first time our lead instructor Ben Branam had taught civilians. He did a great job not
treating us as marines. There were four women in the class and he was excellent with them. I have moderate experience with pistols and defensive work,
so I enrolled in this class to get my wife through it. She was a bit nervous but I knew she needed this class. Somtimes it is hard for a husband to teach
his wife. She quickly lost her apprehensions. Both instructors spent whatever time she needed with her. They did this with all the ladies. Kat had such
a good time and leared so much she can't wait to take another class. As I mentioned I have experience with basic pistol, but I learned things that I did
not realize I did not know. It was a good class and everyone should look at, especially if you have a spouse, son or daughter. Even if they don't shoot,
knowing how to be safe and run a pistol if the chips are down is an advantage that could mean life or death.

There is only one issue I can think of and that would be neither Bob or Ben would turn on the air conditioner. No wait we were outside so that would
not work. It was so hot it melted Ben's boot, but even that kind of heat did not keep their\our enthusiasm from bubbling up.

The next one is September 29th (Saturday) the heat shouldn't be as bad, but then again, you never know.  Thanks spotslayer, I'm glad Kat got a lot out of the course.

You and Kat drove 5 hours to be there, correct?

We drove from the frontier, Brownsville, Texas. We took our time so it was about five hours.

Thanks for all the great comments!  You guys took some great photos too.  I'm just glad you guys where safe, had a good time, and learned something.  Sorry about the heat.  I think it was the hottest day of the year so far.  So much for trying to get a class in before the heat came.

Everyone did great in the class and took the heat like champs.  I enjoyed talking to all of you and dinner afterward was great!  Feel free to email me anytime with any questions or anything else you want to learn.
