It’s often said that most gunfights happen at night or in low light. Yet most people don’t train in low light situations regularly. If all you do is practice in daylight, how will you be confident enough to hit your target if, God forbid, your attacked at night? So, Roger Phillips is my guest on this episode to discuss this subject. He teaches a lot of low light and night fighting courses. This episode will probably make you re-think a few things about how you practice and what gear you choose for your handgun.

The big problem with weapon mounted lights is holsters.  Name me one good concealment holster that is equipped to carry a gun with a light.  The ones I've seen are all for GLOCKs and they're bulky (not concealment) OWBs.  Not to even mention the lack of IWB holsters set up for weapon lights.

Theis Holsters and Concealment Solutions make IWB holsters for a wide variety of gun/light combos! I just received a Black Mamba for my Glock 19 w/Surefire X300. Very comfortable and no more difficult to conceal than the G19 without the light!

Yep and Comp tac makes them too I have used a M-Tac for a G19 and a TLR1. Very comfy and not bulky at all. I'm sure any one mentioned can make one for your gun of choice.

In the last issue of "On Target" magazine there was an article about 4 great holsters for pistols with weaponlights.  Not to mention Jason Christensen's holsters-he can custom make you a holster that is very concealable and can carry the extra weight with no problem.

There are some good holsters out there for guns with lights. When you listen to this episode you might think about some of the disadvantages of carrying a gun with a light on it. Let me know what you think.

Besides the dirth of holster options if you don't carry a glock, I don't see a disadvantage if you ADD a weapon light to the gun (and keep carrying your normal light also).

I did listen to the episode, and if SI brings any classes closer to AZ I'd love to take their night fighting course.

He does them in Vegas.

Ugh, by closer to AZ, I'd hoped it'd be in-state.  Despite what come say, Vegas is not close (6 hours drive is not close).  I'll look into it though.

I make 6 hour drives several times a month.  It's just a matter of what's priority.

If I got paid for those kinds of trips, I wouldn't mind it so much either Wink

I drove 10 hours each way to MAG 40 in May. I drove 6 hours each way to 0-5 Ft Pistol Gunfighting last month.
I didn't get paid for either of those. Not trying to bust your chops just pointing out that I budget for training expenses and ammo each month. Much more important to me than new guns.

Granted.  I'd be less coy about more training right now if it weren't for OTHER travel expenses I've got coming up in the very near future (flying to Tennessee in August for a friend's wedding, and then possibly flying back to VA in the fall for a HS reunion), and trust me, it is NOT inexpensive to fly into a regional airport (but less expensive than flying into Charlotte and renting a car for a few days).

So, I'm just debating whether I should attempt MAG40 this year or next, let alone tacking something else on that also then requires travel (MAG40 won't require travel).

And I thought when you'd mentioned the long drives, you were talking about all the traveling you do as a salesman.
