Originally pre-ordered the Nexus 7 tablet at 8 AM July 28. They started arriving in stores before people got their pre-orders directly from Google. Today I got word that Staples here in South Bend, Indiana just received a shipment. I was the first one down to purchase one. Will give you more information on it this weekend after I've had a chance to use it.

Glad you like it!  A good friend of mine just got his N7 (heh, the Mass Effect fan in me find that humorous) and loves it.

I'm not too experienced with tablets (the only one I have is a Kindle Fire that I got for Christmas, and it feels limited), so could you tell us what it is about your Nexus 7 that is so fantastic?  What makes this an excellent tablet above the others.

I can understand not being excited because with the Kindle Fire it is so limited and way under powered.

Probably over a month and half ago I was not even considering a tablet. About that time my son was in town from Texas and brought his and I was not impressed. It was expensive it was bulky and kind of slow.

Jumping forward to the day after Google announced the Nexus 7 at Google I/O is when I became excited about a tablet. Mostly because of the hardware. See if you been using computers for a long time. You know that in the early days the software could do much more than what the hardware could. That has been the case with tablets. They android operating system was being slowed down by the hardware. The hardware specifications on the Nexus 7 are very impressive.

I'm going to give myself a chance to use it for a few more hours this weekend and then I will post an audio review about it here. But in most cases if anyone gets excited about it now it's kind of late. There's probably 2 to 4 week wait to get one.

I hear you with android.  I've been an Android user since Halloween 2008 (launch date and delivery of the G1 to those who preordered), so I've been with the OS since version 1.0 (or whichever 1.x was released with the G1).  I remember being excited for cupcake (1.5), and totally missing the OTA push of 1.6 (it came, I just didn't notice)... and that was where I stayed till I jumped to VzW and got the Droid X 2 years ago.

I'm now on the Samsung Galaxy S3... WOW, the power of multi-core and ICS is AWESOME!
